"The Profiles Series" Announces Important Program on Childhood Obesity in America

Boca Raton, FL, August 04, 2007 --(PR.com)-- “The Profiles Series,” an award-winning educational television program dedicated to informative, educational programming, announced today that it will produce a special-edition program on overcoming childhood obesity in America.

With the incidence of childhood obesity increasing worldwide—most dramatically in industrialized nations—the Brody School of Medicine will be profiled on an upcoming episode of The Profiles Series that addresses the need to overcome this alarming health crisis.

“The epidemic of childhood obesity has become so widespread, so pervasive in American society that we risk young generations plagued by health problems and early mortality. Not only is it a public health disaster, it’s also becoming and will be a tremendous burden on the healthcare system,” commented Wali Waiters, Executive Producer. “We are committed to shedding light on the crisis and forming a battle plan to overcome it. It’s just imperative.”

In industrialized nations, millions of people live sedentary lifestyles. They eat more fast foods which are high in fat, calories, and most dangerously, trans fatty acids. Studies indicate that in just 2 decades, the incidence of overweight children doubled in the US for the 6 to 11 age group, and tripled in the teenage bracket.

According to the annual National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey run by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, about one-third of children in the United States are overweight or at risk for being overweight. The survey also indicates that about 25 million US children and adolescents are “overweight or nearly overweight.”

The mission of The Profiles Series is to create quality programming that will inform, educate and enlighten their viewers both nationally and internationally. Covering a variety of topics including health, medical, business, and environmental issues, The Profiles Series can be seen on cable networks nationwide, and internationally on Voice of America Television. Visit www.profilesseries.com for more information.

Education Institution for Students with Learing Disabilities to be Featured on The Profiles Series

Leesburg, FL, June 24, 2007 --(PR.com)-- Beacon College, the only accredited 4-year education institution in the country for learning-disables students, will be chronicled on the The Profiles Series Wednesday, June 27, 2007 on cable networks nationwide.

The college, founded in 1989, was the idea of a group of concerned parents passionate about the education of those children affected by learning disabilities—a group historically marginalized and left behind in the arena of education. “At Beacon College, we accommodate a wide range of learning disabilities. The profile of our students may be dyslexic, students with math disabilities, students with language disorders—but what our students have in common is that they are college-able young adults who have average to above average IQs, and are intellectually capable of completing a college curriculum,” said Deborah Brodbeck, President of Beacon College.

The school addresses every detail of a student’s needs, from its specially designed living facilities, to strategies for comprehension and material retention. It utilizes unique learning approaches with successful results. At Beacon, students learn in a nurturing, yet realistically challenging environment tailor made for their individual needs. Students are welcomed at the college and develop confidence and attain academic achievements.

“I am particularly proud and satisfied to partner with Beacon College to highlight this wonderful college. Being a father myself, I know it’s a parent’s heartfelt need to give your child the best chances in life possible.” commented Wali Waiters, Executive Producer, The Profiles Series.

Beacon College was incorporated as a nonprofit 501(c)(3) institution for higher learning on May 24, 1989. The college embraces students with learning disabilities by providing educational opportunities acknowledging individual learning differences.
