Howdy Yall,

I decided to use the Gallery Lombardi list serve from my home office because March in Austin is full of good art and I love the Texas Biennial. This Friday 6-8pm is the opening event for the Texas Biennial 2009, with guest juror Michael Duncan. This is the 3rd version and it's got 73 artists in it from all over the state. http://texasbiennial.com has videos and tons of information on it.

The other thing I have to highlight is "New Brow" the best of underground artists show. This is a brief but welcome visit to Austin by California curator Justin Giarla and his friends. For questions visit Shooting Gallery or call them at (415) 931-8035.

602 West Seventh St. Suite A will be busy night and day through out the week of March 15th, with a private press preview, opening reception, and film screening. Juxtapoz Magazine , the art publication holding the largest circulation in the US, will be sponsoring all events. With their sponsorship, the event comes full circle, as they have brought these underground artists to the attention of the general public. They’ve provided a voice for the Do-It-Yourself culture that only continues to take things to the next level. These parties will include, DJ’s, adult beverages, and killer time to be had by all.

Despite being turned away by the acceptance committee for SXSW, The Shooting Gallery remains committed to premiering “New Brow” to their Texas audience. To highlight the significance of the film’s place in history, internationally renowned art dealer, Justin Giarla, has put together a comprehensive body of work from artists interviewed in the film. The exhibit will run for a week, as a tribute to those who’ve made contributions to the Low Brow art movement. A progressive line up of works will be included, by emerging and largely significant Low Brow and Pop Surrealist artists.

The film, “New Brow”, exposes first hand accounts from artists, galleries, and collectors who initiated and maintained the New American Art Movement. Documenting the personal studios and makeshift gallery spaces where the movement began, it reveals the raw nature required for a new genre to be created. The film brings to attention influences often unrecognized or underrated, such as underground comix, Kustum Kulture, graffiti, tattoo, skate and surf, punk art and others amidst Californian sub-cultures. Among the movement’s history, “New Brow” puts things in perspective, to its major contributor and inspiration, Robert Williams.
See http://gallerylombardi.com for preview images.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please Join us in a celebration; On display through March:

*David Garza* (watercolor portraits), *DD Dagger* (a.k.a. Is a mutli-stage touring project, instigated by David Horvitz and Lukas Geronimas, in collaboration with The Black Hole Space and currator Terri C. Smith, and all those that participate in the Box Game. Project stages consist of: 1. An online web location providing event information and project updates 2. A series of box games played at pre-determined as well as impromptu locations throughout North America over the course of one month 3. A statistical analysis of game data, leading to a conclusive theory of what is inside the box 4. A long-term phase of constructing the answer to what's inside the box 5. An exhibition of the constructed answer along with documentary material and ephemera from the Box Game tour.

The Box Game is a portable event that allows a player to guess or 'vote' for what's inside the box (the process of guessing and voting at the same time is explained later). The Game's initial run will take place during the months of March and April 2009 at over a dozen pre-determined venues, and just as many impromptu locations.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeast by Sweet Beast Sat mar 14 at salvage vanguard (2803 Manor Rd.,512-786-2015) Admission: $5 per night
2009 Schedule:
Main Stage: Projections by Eyeplug
7:15 to 7:45 pm --------Book of Shadows
8 to 8:30 pm -----------Bee vs. Moth
8:45 to 9:15 pm --------Yells at Eels
9:30 pm to 10 pm -------Tiger Hatchery
10:15 to 10:45 pm ------Waco Girls
11 to 11:30 pm ---------Great Tyrant
11:45 to 12:15 am ------Future Blondes
12:30 to 1 am ----------Balaclavas
1:15 to 1:45 am --------ST37
Side Stage: Projections by Lars
7 to 7:25pm-------------Aunt's Analog
7:30 to 8 pm -----------Carlos Villareal
8:15 to 8:45 pm --------Concrete Violin
9 to 9:30 pm -----------ecfa
9:45 to 10:15 pm -------Clear Spot
10:30 to 11 pm ---------Skullcaster
11:15 to 11:45 pm ------Xathax
midnite to 12:30 am ----Steve Marsh
12:45 to 1:15 am -------The Watchers
1:30 to 2 am -----------Muzak John
Sun mar 15 at Plush (617 Red River, 512-478-0099) Admission: $5 Projections by RecSpec
8 to 8:30 pm -----------Canada Coda
8:45 to 9:15 pm --------Bobbie
9:30 pm to 10 pm -------Bright Duplex
10:15 to 10:45 pm ------7 Inch Stitch
11 to 11:30 pm ---------Dust Congress
11:45 to 12:15 am ------FM Campers
12:30 to 1 am ----------Plutonium Farmers
1:15 to 1:45 am --------Jherri Seinfeldt's Atrophied Sac
Mon mar 16 at Plush (617 Red River, 512-478-0099) Admission: $5 Projections by Paul Baker
8 to 8:30 pm -----------Mold
8:45 to 9:15 pm --------Johnkin'kin
9:30 pm to 10 pm -------Jacob Green & Tamara
10:15 to 10:45 pm ------Low Red Center
11 to 11:30 pm ---------Expensive Shit
11:45 to 12:15 am ------Laundry Room Squelchers
12:30 to 1 am ----------Doug Ferguson
1:15 to 1:45 am --------Aurora Plastics Company
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

well that's enough for now.
Thanks for reading.
Rachel Koper
