I personally like Lil Wayne. I think that having one overplayed song (lollipop) represent his enormous body of work is detrimental to his image among passive rap fans. Lil Wayne releases literally hundreds of songs a year, and having his career defined by one song is plain silly. You can look on the same album (Carter III) and find some great and under appreciated songs like Playing with Fire and Phone Home.

That being said.. there is a lot of unwarranted focus on Lil Wayne. Pick a different song of his to nominate for christ's sake. And Swagga like Us is not a great song by any means. Its far more trendy than Lollipop. Seems like these award shows haven't caught up to the nature of rap and hip-hop yet. They can't just choose the blockbusters and be done with it.

I'm happy that Coldplay got in there, but remember when Viva la Vida came out? People didn't like it as much as they do now. Seems like the fact that its "grown on us" is an indicator that Coldplay is riding the wave of its name, a cool image, and good publicity.
