The Gross Uncle

TheGrossUncle (aka Grant Gilliland) has been an animation addict in recovery since his early childhood, and spends a lot of time thinking about funny posture and animals that have personalities. He used to go to art school in Columbus, Ohio and had a green station wagon that at one point had a Wham! tape stuck in the tape deck, unfortunately. Grant now resides in the Mission District of San Francisco, where he can be sighted dodging cars and strange looks alike. He enjoys taking predictable walks and eating peanut butter a little too much…he also enjoys street art, folk art, and doing collaborative work with his good friends. Grant has created artwork for SF Weekly, SF Station, JibJab, Weekly Reader, and a growing list of creative and progressively thinking clients…although he may also be just as busy creating original works for boutiques or just placing small drawings of his lovably bent characters on street corners or bus stop benches. He also enjoys writing character-based short stories, small biographies, and/or excerpts from conversations that seem to go nowhere and everywhere at the same time. He is currently writing and co-producing a puppet show which he hopes to take on the road. He enjoys meeting new people on the inter-web, so give him an internet-style high five one of these days.

Also, don't miss the cameo of my boy DJ Wobbly-twiglegs on the 1's and 2's on the title track "Loincloth Excursion"...I'll be maxin' in the forest 'till then, so be sure to set your sundials so you don't miss the "not just for squirrels" release party in 2012...If you find yourself stuck in my hood and you need to do your business, don't wipe with no acorns, 'aight?
SF Station TV interview!

I was recently interviewed by Emeri Gelle for SF Station TV in Mission Dolores Park. Dolores Park is a great place for an interview and also is my favorite place to lay in the grass and have frisbee-chasing dogs run full force into my head. Needless to say, it was an obvious choice for our get together. So anyways, we had fun! We chatted it up, I drew a little picture, mentioned some points of interest in my artmaking, and a little about my process. I tried my best to not look at the camera the whole time, but as you can see, there were a few times where I guess I thought it might be a good idea...hmmm....

Click here to check the interview out on YouTube!

Looking back now, I can say that the bio suffered from various creative handicaps...but look at me now, Momma! I'm using all the correct, non-made up english words with style...you'd be proud! Thanks to Nikki for posting my work, and be sure to stop by her blog at least once a week for some funny pictures, videos, and well-written posts with really great titles...all having to do with Vans shoes and art culture.
