Running With Scissors

Running With Scissors is the feature film adaptation of Augusten Burroughs' hilarious and poignant childhood memoir. Growing up in the pill-popping 1970s, young Augusten (Joseph Cross) was living a middle-class existence with an alcoholic father (Alec Baldwin) and a bipolar mother (Annette Bening), an unpublished poet with delusions of becoming famous. When his parents divorce, Augusten's mother sends him to live with her wildly unorthodox psychiatrist, Dr. Finch (Brian Cox), and his eccentric extended family. Running With Scissors chronicles Augusten's survival under the most extraordinary of circumstances.

Written and directed by Ryan Murphy, Running With Scissors stars Annette Bening, Brian Cox, Joseph Fiennes, Evan Rachel Wood, Alec Baldwin, Jill Clayburgh and Joseph Cross.

Directed by: Ryan Murphy

Screenplay by: Ryan Murphy

Based on the Personal Memoirs of:	Augusten Burroughs

Produced by: Dede Gardner
Ryan Murphy
Brad Pitt
Brad Grey

Executive Producer: Steven Samuels

Cast: Annette Bening
Brian Cox
Joseph Fiennes
Evan Rachel Wood
Alec Baldwin
Jill Clayburgh
Joseph Cross

Running With Scissors has been rated R by the MPAA for Strong Language and Elements of Sexuality, Violence and Substance Abuse.
Re: film vs. book

I personally cannot wait till I see the movie. I never got to see it in theatres, but I will definately rent it the first day it comes out.
It's disappointing to hear that it had parts cut. I loved the book, and I was hoping for all. But then again, I have to expect that it won't quite live up to the book's greatness.

Re: film vs. book

cindy's right - the unfortunate aspect to movie making when it comes to adapting novels is that you just HAVE to cut it down. think about how your brain reacts to visual displays versus text... it just has to happen.

hopefully, it's not enough to take away from the story...

Annette Benning was flawless, as always, but I think, as always, a bit much was cut just to make it a 2 hour movie.
