Ed Pazant

Ed Pazant, mesmerizing musical genius, born June 29, 1938 in Savannah GA and raised in Beaufort SC, started at the tender age of 19, when he debuted, playing his alto sax in "Jazz Under The Stars" in Central Park in New York City, featuring bandleader Lionel Hampton with Billie Holliday as lead vocalist. The year was 1957.
Ed attended Virginia State College for a short while, but the lure of the music in his soul kept drawing him back to it. Consequently, for the next fourteen years, Ed toured and played his horn with Lionel Hampton and some of the greatest players in the world, developing his "Chops" along the way.
During the 60's and the 70's, Ed recorded two albums still popular today: "Loose And Juicy" on Vanguard Records and "Full Circle" on Lexington Records, featuring the Pazant Brothers (Ed and his brother, Al), along with their band, Beaufort Express. In his younger days, Ed was motivated and inspired to play by his late grandfather, who played every reed instrument known to man! He was also inspired and encouraged by his mother, Rosalie, and his father, Ed Pazant, as well as his four sisters and brother Al.
In the late 80's, Ed played in a musical on Broadway in New York City, entitled "Blues In The Night", starring Eartha Kitt, and later starred Della Reese. He went on from there to tour with Melba Moore for the next five years with his band. Al Pazant, Ed's brother, who is also the bass singer for the singing group, The Manhattans, joined with Ed and together they became co-leaders of the still-famous Cotton Club Orchestra in Harlem. The brothers Pazant even decided at one point to be the back-up band for boxer Joe Frazier in his heyday. Nowadays even some of the young famous hip-hop entertainers are busy sampling the "Pazant Sound" and feel, enhancing new, young school with old school.
Currently, Ed tours with two different and very popular groups besides his own: "The George Gee Orchestra" and "Pucho's Latin Soul Brothers".
Going back to the 80's, Ed met Herschel E. Dwellingham, Sr., producer, composer, arranger and songwriter, while working on a musical together in New York City. They developed a great friendship, and ultimately decided to embark on a project together, and the album "Home Cookin'" was born, produced by Herschel Dwellingham Sr, on Tik/Magic City Records out of Bogalusa LA.
"Home Cookin'" is really hot and happening. It's a great recipe. Ed's wonderful melodic tones flow up and down, in and out, rippling like a soft wave on the ocean, sometimes like a gentle breeze, at times exciting you and calming you all at once. You can literally feel his soul.
One tune in particular , entitled :For The Love Of Patricia", inspired and written for his late wife, reveals a glimpse of his love for her. Such a daring blend of alto and tenor sax, bass clarinet, flute and oboe, it's funky and enthralling, as he reveals his heart in every note, filling every orifice of your imagination.
Two of the other songs on the album, "I Love Your Magic Touch" and "Let Me Love You", feature the sultry sounds of Marlena, formerly Molly Holt of the Young Rascals, and adds a wonderful mellow flavor to the smooth jazz sound. Marlena is also a recording artist on the
Bogue/Magic City Record label, another subsidiary of Bogalusa Music Group.
Althea Rogers is the featured vocalist on the song "Misty", and her sweet sound is enchanting.
"Let's Get Funky" features the great Cullen Knight on trumpet, and it does indeed get funky.
Ed Pazant brings a wealth of his experiences from North, South, East, West and abroad to the forefront. His horn sings, giving you enjoyment, fun and a bit of laughter, too. He's bringing it on, bringing it oh so strong, so sit back, relax, listen and enjoy. Let Ed Pazant take you on the journey with him.
