Plot

Under the care of her adoptive family, Saya Otonashi has been living the life of an anemic and amnesiac, but otherwise ordinary schoolgirl. Saya’s happy life is shattered when she is attacked by a chiropteran, and learns that she is the only one who can defeat them. ("Chiroptera" is the name of the order of biological classification that contains bats, probably the reason for the vampiric creatures being called "Chiropterans".)

Armed with her sword,
Saya embarks on a journey with her family, allies, and Chevalier, Haji,
to rid the world of Chiropterans and rediscover her identity. The
course of the journey reveals the background history of the
chiropeterans and Saya's very deep past, which extends into the
mid-19th century.

The series is initially set in present day (September 2005) Okinawa City (Koza), on Okinawa Island, near the US Kadena Air Base.
In the course of the series, Saya visits locales across the world,
while fighting enemy chiropterans and searching for her origins.

Characters
Saya's Friends and Family The series revolves around Saya Otonashi, a seemingly ordinary high
school student who lives with her adopted family and secretly guarded
by her Chevalier, Haji (Hagi in the English translation). Her adopted
father, George Miyagusuku, is a veteran of the Vietnam War and was
entrusted with Saya by David's father. Her elder brother, Kai, was a
star athlete, while her younger brother, Riku, is a kind and smart boy,
though shy.

Red ShieldAn organization formed to combat the Chiropterans, the Red Shield
was founded by the descendants of Joel Goldschmidt, the man who
originally found Saya and Diva. Most Red Shield members are survivors
of Chiroptera attacks or have lost someone to Chiropterans, and all
possess a trinket with an embedded Chiropteran crystal. The Red
Shield's greatest enemy is Diva and her Chevaliers. Red Shield is
responsible for Saya's protection and well-being, using her as their
key weapon against the Chiropterans.

Cinq Flèches GroupThe Goldsmiths are a branch of the Goldschmidt family dedicated to
protecting Diva; all their family members are Diva's Chevaliers. They
control the Cinq Flèches Group, a powerful and influential
conglomerate, with the ultimate goal of creating a world of Chiroptera
for Diva's future. One member of the Goldsmith family, Solomon, falls
in love with Saya, and thus breaks ties with Diva, being the only
Chevalier to do so.

The SchiffAn unstable balance between Chevaliers and Chiropterans, they are
prototypes for the Corpse Corps, pseudo-Chevalier soldiers created from
Diva's blood by a group of scientists under the sponsorship of Amshel
Goldsmith in Khirbet. Although they have similar regenerative
abilities, the Schiff eventually die from an attribute they call the
"Thorn," an affliction that causes their bodies to gradually
crystallize. As imperfect beings, direct exposure to sunlight will
cause them to spontaneously combust. Unable to attain Diva’s
blood (the only supposed cure for the "Thorn"), they gradually die off,
leaving Moses, Karman and Lulu. Karman gets infected with the Thorn,
and Moses sacrifices himself with Karman and they die together, leaving
Lulu as the last surviving Schiff at the end of the series.

Diva

Saya's twin sister is the story's main antagonist. Her blood,
referred to as Delta67, is used to transform people into Chiropterans.
When she was born she was kept in an isolated tower as part of an
experiment. Because of that she hated Joel, slaughtering him and all of
the people at his birthday party after Saya, unaware of Diva's nature,
released her.

Plot

Light Yagami
is an extremely intelligent young man who resents the crime and
corruption in the world. His life undergoes a drastic change in the
year 2003, when he discovers a mysterious notebook, known as the "Death
Note", lying on the ground. The Death Note's instructions claim that if
a human's name is written within it, that person shall die. Light is
initially skeptical of the Death Note's authenticity, believing it is
just a prank. However, after experimenting with it and killing two
criminals, Light is forced to admit that the Death Note is real. After
meeting with the previous owner of the Death Note, a shinigami named Ryuk, Light seeks to become "the God of the new world" by passing his judgment on criminals.

Soon, the number of inexplicable deaths of reported criminals catches the attention of the International Police Organization and a mysterious detective known only as "L". L quickly learns that the serial killer, dubbed by the public as "Kira" (derived from the Japanese pronunciation of the word "Killer"),
is located in Japan. L also concludes that Kira can kill people without
laying a finger on them. Light realizes that L will be his greatest
nemesis, and a game of psychological cat and mouse between the two begins.

Main characters
Light Yagami (Kira) (夜神月, Yagami Raito?)

The protagonist of Death Note, Light is an extremely
intelligent but bored 17-year old student. When he finds the Death
Note, dropped in the human world by Ryuk (a shinigami), he decides to
use it to kill all criminals and earns the title Kira. His ultimate goal is to cleanse the world of evil to create a utopia and then reign over this new world as its god.
L (エル, Eru?, real name: L Lawliet)
L is the world's three top-rated detectives (through two additional
aliases), tasked with tracking down and arresting Kira. As such, he is
Light's arch-enemy. His disheveled appearance masks his great powers of
deduction and insight. L has many quirks, such as sitting in an odd
manner, snacking on sweets constantly, and holding his cellphone and
other objects in a peculiar manner. He often takes drastic strategies
to confuse and force the hand of his opponents. On several occasions he
has willingly disclosed several of his weaknesses to Kira at the risk
of his own life in the hopes that he would lure him into a trap.
Misa Amane (弥海砂, Amane Misa?) A girl with an immense crush on Kira, Misa is a popular idol in Japan,
and tends to wear clothing in many different styles, depending on what
she is doing. She is immature and tends to refer to herself in the
third person in an attempt to be cute. Misa is completely devoted to
Light, and she once said that she loved him at first sight. Light,
however, only views her as an asset to his plans because of her Death
Note and her Shinigami eyes
(that she obtained at the cost of half of her remaining life span,
twice). The murderer of Misa's parents had been punished by Kira,
explaining her later devotion to him.
Mello (メロ, Mero?, real name: Mihael Keehl)

Mello was an orphan who grew up with Near in Watari's shelter for
gifted children. Like Near, Mello was one of the candidates to become
L's successor. Similar to L's fondness for sweets, he is often seen
eating bars of chocolate. Although Mello is quite intelligent, he often
lets his emotions get the better of him. Mello wears leather most of
the time, unlike Near or L. He also appears to be less secluded in
terms of his friends and hobbies, and seems to be fond of biking. When
Mello is first released - Light tries to find and kill him, which he
manages to escape - but due to an explosion, he is left with a scar
over the left side of his face.
Near (ニア, Nia?, real name: Nate River) Near was a primary candidate to become L's successor and calls
himself N during the course of his investigations. He shares a number
of similarities with L. Much like how L plays with things such as sugar
cubes and forks, Near is frequently shown playing with toys or his
hair. Near also sits in an unusual manner similar to L, but with some
slight differences. He offered to join forces with Mello to fight Kira,
but Mello turned him down. Near then gained the support of the US
government and formed the Secret Provision for Kira (SPK).
Teru Mikami (魅上照, Mikami Teru?) Mikami is selected as the fourth Kira by Light, after Light decides
that it is too dangerous for the Death Note to be near Misa or himself,
since he and Misa are currently under surveillance by Aizawa and Mogi.
A prosecuting attorney and adamant supporter of Kira, Mikami shares
many of the same ideals, thoughts, and priorities as Kira, and is
ecstatic when he discovers that Kira, his God, has chosen him, proving
that God is on his side and watching. He is completely devoted and
loyal to Kira, believing that divine justice must be brought down upon
the people. Little is known about his personal life; he appears to have
no hobbies or anything else of the sort. He chants "delete" with each
name he writes down in the Death Note due to events in his past when he
thought God was "deleting" the evil people in his life. He, like Misa,
has made the exchange of half his remaining years for Shinigami eyes.

Shinigami (Death Note)

Ryuk (リューク, Ryūku?)

The first shinigami
who dropped a Death Note into the human world, which Light would pick
up. Acting out of pure boredom, Ryuk begins the story of Death Note on
a whim. It is stated that Ryuk obtained the second Death Note in the shinigami
world from "tricking the old man" for another one. Ryuk is not Light's
ally, and in fact declares in their first meeting that someday he
(Ryuk) would write Light's name into his own Death Note. Ryuk often
refuses to aid Light and instead enjoys watching him struggle for his
goals. He acts for his own interests and entertainment, and often fails
to tell Light key details about the Death Note. However, Ryuk will aid
Light if it serves his own goals, such as providing amusement or
obtaining apples, without which he suffers a form of withdrawal symptoms.
Rem (レム, Remu?) The female shinigami who first gives Misa her Death Note and trades her for the Shinigami eyes.
Similar to Ryuk, Rem possesses two Death Notes; however, she purposely
gives one of them to Misa Amane. Rem inherited her second Death Note
from Jealous, another shinigami who died when he saved Misa's
life, and thought it only right to pass it on to Misa. Rem inherits
Jealous' love for Misa as well and is prompt to defend Misa even at the
cost of her life. Rem shows this when she states that she will kill
Light if Misa dies before her time.

Ouran High Host club

Plot

Haruhi Fujioka is a scholarship student at Ouran High School, a fictional school located in Bunkyō, Tokyo.
Because of the superlative cost of the school uniform, Haruhi resorts
to wearing long slacks, polo shirts and vests. Combined with her large
glasses and tousled short hair, Haruhi's look causes her to be confused
for a boy.

Looking for a quiet place to study, Haruhi stumbles upon the Third
Music Room, the working place of the Ouran Host Club, a group of six
attractive male students (Takashi "Mori", Mitsukuni "Hunny", Kaoru and
Hikaru, Tamaki, and Kyoya) who spend their time charming and
entertaining the school's girls for profit. During their first meeting,
Haruhi accidentally knocks over a vase valued at ¥8,000,000, estimated to be $80,000.

In order to pay off the large debt, Haruhi is employed as the club's
"dog" and constantly ordered to do menial tasks like serving food or
cleaning up. The Club president, without knowing she is really a girl,
promotes Haruhi to "host" as soon as he discovers her potential. Even
after the truth comes out in the Club, Haruhi continues the charade and
is allowed to pay off the rest of her debt working as a host; provided
she conceals her true identity/gender from the customers.

Haruhi Fujioka

Haruhi Fujioka:

The straightforward and prickly-minded heroine
of the story, Haruhi is an intelligent but poor first-year in Ouran
Academy and could only enter through a special scholarship. One day,
she accidentally breaks an enormously expensive vase of Ouran's famed
host club and must work as a host with them until her debt is paid.
Although her independent and simple personality clashes with the much
more outgoing hosts', she cares for each of them deeply and enjoys
being a host (although she must disguise herself as a boy to do this).
Haruhi lives with her okama
father in a two-story apartment and her mother, a lawyer, passed away
of an illness when she was young, so Haruhi is skilled in household
chores.

Tamaki Suou

Tamaki Suou:

A quite narcissistic but caring second-year, Tamaki is the founder
of the host club and is very dedicated to his duty as a host. The main comic relief
character of the series, Tamaki can be viewed as naive and outspoken
for his age, especially since he only views himself as an obsessive
father figure to Haruhi, when in reality he's in love with her. Tamaki
is half-Japanese and half-French, and lives with his father, the
wealthy superintendent of Ouran Academy. They both live separately from
his French mother because of a deal between his parents and his
bitterly cold paternal grandmother, but is very gentle around her.

Kyoya Ootori

Kyoya Ootori:

The cunning and extremely sly vice president of the host club, Kyoya
is close friends with Tamaki, despite their completely different
demeanors. He is secretive and remarkably brilliant, being able to
calculate any benefits that would come out of the host club's
misadventures. Despite having quite antagonistic traits, the host club
wouldn't be as half as successful as it is right now without Kyoya's
uptight resourcefulness. He lives with his father, an affluent zaibatsu owner, two brothers that he has to surpass to become his father's successor, and an older sister who deeply cares about him.

Hitachiin twins

Hikaru Hitachiin

and

Kaoru Hitachiin:

Mischievous, devious, and otherwise childish, Hikaru and Kaoru are
identical twins who often toy with fellow classmate and host club
member, Haruhi. However, as they got to know her better, they start to
care for her deeply, especially since they discovered that Haruhi can
tell them apart even when they mess up their hair (the easiest way to
tell them apart is the way they part their hair (note: this is true at
least for the manga), something that no one has ever done before. In
the host club, the twins use a 'brotherly love' technique to attract
customers. They were originally cynical to the world before joining the
host club, as they rarely spoke to people when they couldn't tell the
twins apart, so their relationship with Haruhi is a large part of their
life. They live with their mother (Yuzuha Hitachiin), a designer, and
their considerably meeker father, a computer software designer. He is
know as the cool type.

Mitsukuni Haninozuka

Mitsukuni Haninozuka:

A short, cute, but exceptionally strong senior, Mitsukuni, or often
referred to as "Honey", is a very childish and sweet-loving boy who is
much older than his grade-school boy appearance, and can be confused
with Fruits Basket's Momiji Sohma
(coincidentally, they both have the same seiyus in the anime). Honey is
often around his cousin, Takashi, or "Mori", whom he is very close to.
Honey lives with his father, the owner of a famous dojo and his little
brother, whom he is often at odds with. He is very fond of eating
sweets and his room is full of stuffed animals. He used to hide his
true self by being a "real man" for some time, but after Tamaki
convinced him that liking cute things wasn't bad, he soon realized that
there was absolutely no need for him to hide his true self. Then,
together with Mori, he joined the host club, attracting customers with
his absolute cuteness.

Takashi Morinozuka

Takashi Morinozuka:

The silent and instinctive senior, Takashi is quite intimidating in
appearance, but not when around his cousin, the absolutely playful
Honey. Mori (his affectionate nickname) is mostly mute and mysterious,
and humorously doesn't talk so much, but is very protective of Honey.
In the manga, he has a more outgoing little brother (Satoshi
Morinozuka), and Mori's hobbies include kendo, which he is a master of, and also the national champion.
