INTELLIGENTNEWZNET...INTELLIGENT FOLLOW-UP TO Rev. Jeremiah Wright’s 9/11 Sermon

INTELLIGENTNEWZNET
INFORMING the HIP-HOP COMMUNITY

INTELLIGENT FOLLOW-UP TO Rev. Jeremiah Wright’s 9/11 Sermon

Last week we sent out a bulletin breaking down our thoughts about the thoughts, opinion, and sermons of Rev. Jeremiah Wright and all of the controversy that followed… (If you missed it you can check it out here…
http://wiseintelligent.blogspot.com/

We appreciate all the feedback and comments that you’ve sent us; all of your points of view were very well thought out and INTELLIGENT!!!
INTELLIGENTNEWZNET...The Truth: An Un-American Idea

INTELLIGENTNEWZNET
INFORMING the HIP-HOP COMMUNITY

The Truth: An Un-American Idea

Yet they hearkened not unto me, nor inclined their ear, but hardened their neck: they did worse than their fathers. Therefore thou shalt speak all these words unto them; but they will not hearken to thee: thou shalt also call unto them; but they will not answer thee. But thou shalt say unto them, This is a nation that obeyeth not the voice of the LORD their God, nor receiveth correction: truth is perished, and is cut off from their mouth.

Jeremiah…Chapter 7 verse 26-28…King James Version

After listening to, watching, and reading transcripts of Chicago's now infamous Rev. Jeremiah Wright's sermons, as well as other people's comments about those sermons, the inescapable reality of our situation hit me like a crane falling from a New York City skyscraper! That reality was that, to tell THE TRUTH is as “UN-AMERICAN” an act as bombing the World Trade Center. The truth in our day has been deemed an "enemy-combatant" an "enemy of the state" a "threat to national security" and a hater of the "freedom's" and "liberties" on which “democracy” was founded.

It’s time for us to be honest. WHAT PART OF WHAT REV. WRIGHT SAID WAS NOT THE TRUTH? He said…

“…the Government gives them the drugs, builds bigger prisons, passes a 3 strike law and then wants us to sing God Bless America…NO…NO…NO…Not God Bless America, but God Damn America! For killing innocent people, God Damn America for treating her citizens as less than human…”

Now am I missing something because America (CIA) DID bring drugs into the country! They DID flood poor neighborhoods with these drugs, and used the money to finance covert wars on foreign soil and subsequently built a prison industrial complex that incarcerates unsuspecting ghetto children while making themselves billions of dollars in the process! All of this might be an inconvenient truth, but it is the truth nevertheless!!! [See, Iran Contra; Dark Alliance by Gary Webb; ask John Kerry or visit Freeway Rick Ross at Prison]. The reverend continued by stating that 9/11 could have been the result of America's tyrannical and oppressive foreign policy. He referred to this as the proverbial "chicken's coming home to roost". He said…

“…We (America) bombed Hiroshima. We bombed Nagasaki…and we nuked far more than the thousands in New York and the Pentagon and we never batted an eye…We (America) have supported state terrorism against the Palestinians and Black South Africans and now we are indignant because the stuff we have done over seas are now being brought back right over into our own front yards…”

I’m not trying to be sarcastic but I really thought in 2008 that all of this was elementary and basic common knowledge. While watching an episode of Real Time with Bill Maher, I heard Barney Frank say that “it was wrong for Rev. Wright to suggest that America had brought 9/11 on itself”. Now I can understand why some people might think that it’s wrong to bring up these very uncomfortable things because it’s very painful to confront the potential reality of why such a horrific event could have happened, but in my opinion it’s vital for us to start dealing with the core and real reasons why people around the world have so many issues with America. If you can accept the fact that Saddam Hussein was executed because his “chickens’ of subjugation, oppression, and state sponsored terrorism throughout Iraq and the neighboring regions had finally came home to roost, it shouldn’t be considered Un-American for Rev. Wright or anybody else to start looking at America under the same type of microscope to try and figure out just what the hell is going on around here. How many American's really understand the depth of this countries influence in foreign lands - for better or for worse? How many American's know that "Al-Qaeda" is an American CIA invention? This group was armed, trained, and named by the CIA in the early 1980's, and used to help destabilize the then Soviet Union. Guess what, it worked! America’s so-called “Cold War” or “War on Communism” created the world we are wrestling with today, i.e., the “war on terror” the ‘war on drugs”, etc.

•	The Cold War was responsible for fueling the illegal drug trafficking in America beginning when drugs from Laos were shipped to America in the 1950’s – 60’s and profits from sales financed the arming of allies fighting against Ho Chi Min. Also, the flooding of African-American communities with tons of cocaine from South America with proceeds going to finance the contra’s whose task it was to destabilize the Sandinistas of Nicaragua.

•	The Cold War was responsible for arming, training and financing such terrorists groups as Al-Qaeda, as well as the Taliban government of Afghanistan. Believe it or not Saddam Hussein was also a CIA “Cold War” creation.

•	The Cold War was responsible for arming opposing African rebels in the Congo, thus, giving rise to the current “civil-unrest” in African countries like Sierra Leone.

I suggest the uninformed American citizen grab him/herself a copy of Mahmood Mamdani’s Good Muslim, Bad Muslim (Tree Leaves Press, New York 2005). It was during this same “Cold War” period that Robert McFarlane and Oliver North asked the Saudis for $1 million a month to help finance their own international terror campaigns. The two, North and McFarlane, also tapped the Apartheid South African government for $1 million a month for the same covert terror. Then we wonder why the Reagan/Bush administration did nothing about the genocide in South Africa that was at its peak during this time?

You see, after the Boland Agreement that stopped funding for the “war on communism” the Reagan/Bush administration took two initiatives that all but destroyed America’s “black” community and changed U.S. foreign policy forever. According to Mamdani, these were 1) they turned to the drug trade for an illicit source of funds; 2) they turned to the religious right to implement those foreign policy objectives that Congress had ruled against, thus beginning a trend towards privatizing war.” Rev. Wright was, in effect, RIGHT!

Remember Malcolm X made the “chicken’s coming home to roost” analogy famous amongst us. Malcolm used the proverb immediately following the assassination of JFK. Brother Malcolm was referring to the fact that America had just assassinated Patrice Lumumba and had been involved in the assassination of many other foreign leaders, so maybe the JFK assassination was an example of “reaping what you sew”, one of those good ole “Judeo-Christian” principles on which America was built. Today we know that the same American “Judeo Christian” machine that assassinated Patrice Lumumba, Kwame Nkrumah, Lauren Kabila, Martin Luther King and Brother Malcolm, was the same machine responsible for splattering JFK’s cerebrum all over his wife in front of the entire Judeo-Christian world.

Bottom line, Rev. Wright is a pastor whose only crime was telling the TRUTH! He had no cache of arms stockpiled in the basement of his church, he had no “weapons of mass destruction” and his church hasn’t and doesn’t receive any western-union transfers from Osama Bin Laden. The good Judeo-Christian Rev. Wright simply told the truth, now he’s an “anti-American villain”, who supports the “terrorist” and the “axis of evil”, [ooohhh…scary], when both these infamous boogie monsters have “Made in America” sewed in their underwear!

But, even in the seriousness of this public “denunciation” and disowning/disagreeing with the good Reverend’s “anti-American-rhetoric”, I did find some humor in all of this. That laugh came from my own hood while watching black reverend’s from my area play such an agile and rhythmic game of hop-scotch trying their damnedest not to say what they really felt, something like “Yes…God Damn America!” It was like that part in the Bible wherein Jesus told the disciple Peter that he would deny him thrice before the cock crow (John 13:38). Peter wanted to be down and represent with, and for, the denounced, rejected and crucified Jesus, but at the same time he did not want the rejection, denouncing and public crucifixion that came with telling the truth in the ROMAN EMPIRE!

These are Christian pastors who, by all accounts and testaments are supposed to do “what would Jesus do”. Jesus said that “the Truth shall set you free”. America was supposedly founded on a Judeo-Christian morality which holds certain “truths” to be self-evident! However, when Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X, John F. Kennedy, Robert Kennedy, Medgar Evers, Fred Hampton Sr., Gary Webb, and many others were moved to expound on certain evident truths, they were all denounced, disowned, messages reduced to rhetoric and assassinated! When certain MC’s of Hip Hop’s “Golden Era” (Public Enemy, KRS ONE, X-Clan, Poor Righteous Teachers, Brand Nubians, Ice Cube, Paris, Kam, Sista Souljah, etc.) were moved to high-light certain truths that they held to be self-evident, the entire movement was officially “un-officially” banned from the public domain; denounced, disowned, message reduced to worthless rhetoric and all but assassinated?

So, if the countries so-called Christian leaders (white, black, etc.) want to maintain their positions of no-POWER in the current set-up, they must take the position of the high priest Caiaphas of Jesus’ day. For it was the high priest Caiaphas who said that if this man is allowed to continue with his sayings and works, the Romans will come and take all of our positions in the high places and destroy what’s left of Jewish autonomy (John 11:41-53)! Needless to say, in order to keep their positions in the high places, they sold Jesus out even though they knew he was telling THE TRUTH!

It is a sad day in the world when men are threatened to denounce, disown, and disassociate themselves with the truth. If men were not afraid to speak truth to power America would not have invaded Iraq on the premise of an out-right LIE! If someone in congress or the presidents cabinet would have been brave enough to publicly tell the truth about Saddam’s “WMD’s”, over 4000 American soldiers and 120,000 Iraqi citizens would not be dead. It was George Orwell that said “in a time of deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act”. It was the Apostle Paul that said “Am I therefore become your enemy, because I tell you the truth? (Gal. 4:16)

WISE INTELLIGENT

www.myspace.com/wiseintelligent
http://wiseintelligent.blogspot.com/

Proper
Education
Always
Counters
Exploitation

It’s NO LONGER Smart to be DUMB!

INTELLIGENTNEWZNET...BLACK TO SCHOOL
INTELLIGENTNEWZNET
INFORMING the HIP-HOP COMMUNITY

INTELLIGENT CURRICULUM…BLACK TO SCHOOL

History is a clock that people use to tell their political time of day. It is a compass that they use to find themselves on the map of human geography. It also tells them where they are, and what they are. Most importantly, an understanding of history tells a people where they still must go, and what they still must be.
Dr. John Henrik Clarke (from his 1987 essay Why Africana History?)

Ok ladies and gentlemen its “BLACK HISTORY” month, how appropriate for my first blog of the New Year. I initially began writing something “inspirational” you know some journalistic libations for the noble ancestors upon whose shoulders we as a people, nation and individuals now stand. But sadly, that train of thought was derailed by a BBC article that came via the mighty Mundah and the Real News Network. The article entitled “Canada Afrocentric School Sparks Debate” served as a confirmation of my position that “We [black folk] just don’t get it?”

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/7217212.stm

The first paragraph of the article gets right to the point and focus of the article saying that “A decision to create the first Afrocentric, or black-focused school funded by taxpayers in Canada's biggest city has sparked a heated debate.”

Why should, or how could an African Centered school “spark heated debate” in a society of the “western world” where grandiose ideals like “diversity”, “inclusion”, “tolerance”, “pluralism”, “multi-cultural” and “melting-pot” roll off the tongues of western world citizens like stanzas from a Shakespearian play? I mean the current public school system (which is also funded by taxpayers money) is extremely Eurocentric or white-focused even when 90% of the children in attendance are non-white? So the first question that comes to my mind is that if it’s okay to use “taxpayers” money to fund a Eurocentric public school curriculum, then why should it “spark heated debate” to create an Afrocentric one in an African Centered School?

I believe I can say without too much rebuttal that the over whelming majority of Blacks, Hispanics, Asians, and Native citizens of Canada and America pay taxes with the same pleasant irritation as European or White American/Canadians do, and I’m quite sure that they have earned and deserve the right to have an educational system that is reflective of their ethnic and cultural contributions to the nation in which they live. Why does the idea of an all-inclusive or should I say more simply an honest and balanced view of history create such negative feedback and adult angst?

I believe that if you're teaching history
Deal with straight up facts no mystery
Teach the student what needs to be taught
Cause Black and White kids both take shorts
When one doesn't know about the other ones' culture
Ignorance swoops down like a vulture…
KRS ONE… “You Must Learn”

So now that the “can of worms” has been opened, we can see that the western worlds non-white citizens have been paying taxes to help fund the current predominantly Eurocentric or white-focused schools throughout the entire western world to their own detriment. The article goes on to say that the “scheme” yes, the “scheme” (read plot) was approved at a packed meeting of the Toronto District School Board.

From kindergarten to the western university taxpaying non-white students are bombarded with overtly racist ideas, myths, falsities, omissions and all sorts of gross misinformation that comprise the legendary lying lore that western “mis-education” is fashioned of. This is why Noam Chomsky said that “education is a system of imposed ignorance”. I mean truth be told Pythagoras had no original patent to the concept of a “theorem.” The square root of the hypotenuse was used in Egypt some two-thousand years before Pythagoras was a drop of semen. Columbus “discovered” nothing. There were people in the “New World” when he got here. The journals of these same Spanish explorers confirm that West Africans had long been making the trip to the “New World” before Columbus was a drop of semen. The Egyptians were black! Hippocrates was NOT the “father of medicine”, and the Civil War was NOT fought to “free” the “slaves” because the North thought enslaving human beings was wrong! Now should non-white taxpayers continue to support and fund the perpetuation of the Eurocentic legendary lying lore?

Considering the above, we must honestly ask and answer the question of what’s wrong with a public school in the west wherein the curriculum aim to use "the sources, knowledge and experiences of peoples of African descent as an integral feature of the teaching and learning environment”?
With a drop out rate among young black males as high as 40%, it is obvious that the current system is not working for a very high percentage of young black people. Why then is the people’s attempt to implement a solution that has been proven to work (as evidenced by privately funded CIBI schools in the U.S.) met with such visceral public resistance from the custodians of the legendary lying lore?

"Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today"
Malcolm X

Take the statement from Anthony Hutchinson for example, an economist and former university professor who the article says “has been involved in a number of youth outreach and employment programs.” The article quotes Mr. Hutchinson saying "This belief that if we teach kids about their social and cultural identity they're going to perform a lot better is just stupid." Now how can teaching people the history of themselves (good and bad) be “stupid”?
The above quote is disturbing and interesting because the same individual previously states in the same article that he “blames the school system for marginalizing students.” To marginalize someone means to make them feel unimportant and unnecessary. To lay blame for this marginalizing of black students at the foot of the school system you must know that the school is responsible for making black youth feel like they are nothing. How does the school marginalize black youth? It tells them they had no history before slavery at the hands of Euro-Americans. It teaches them that their culture is “primitive” or “third world”. It severs Egypt (and recently Ethiopia) from Africa and made them and their marvelous accomplishments apart of a fictional land mass called “the middle” or “near” east. The current Euro-centric or white-focused system teaches the black child that slavery was a blessing and forever repudiates the black world as being of no value!

The only way to reverse the lying lore of the Euro-centric or white-focused system is to establish a system that deals with the truth concerning the people that have been oppressed and exploited to no end. This must been done even if it means the establishment of a counter Euro-centric or white-focused, African-centered or black-focused school. When does Africa get to tell its side of the story? When does the Native American get to tell his story? When do ALL non-white people get to tell their story? Why have we accepted the exploiters version of the story (his-story) as the only story? I don’t see any of these custodians of the legendary lying lore pointing out the undeniable fact that the current school systems of the west are Euro-centric and white-focused in their curriculum.

"what you're calling Negro history, and
African history is the missing pages of world history."
Arthur Schomburg speaking to Dr. John Henrik Clarke

Next the professor states that an African centered school is "counter-intuitive and counter-productive” arguing further that “You’re going to take public money from the public school system to channel towards a special interest imperative. This is a slippery slope that we do not want to go down." If you really want to start talking about what has been “Counter-productive” we can deal directly with the current Euro-centric system to the tune of a 40% black male drop out rate? This is not a matter of “taking public money from the public school system” it’s a matter of scraping the singularly Euro-centric and white-focused public school curriculum and replacing it with one that reflects and includes a more honest and complete historical perspectives of all of its students. Furthermore, is the current public school agenda not a “special interest imperative?” Are not black, Hispanic, Asian, and Native American/Canadian students a “special interest” of the current system? I guess not. That being said, the reality of the built-in failure mechanism for black and other non-white youth in the western world public school system is crystal clear.
But how about the statement from the city's influential newspaper, The Toronto Star, who said that the idea of an African-centered school “smacked of segregation, which is contrary to the values of the school system and Canadian society as a whole". If 90% of the student body in the poorest schools are predominantly black, but 90% of the student body in the wealthiest schools are predominantly white…YOU ARE ALREADY SEGREGATED!!! What kind of a pathological flight from reality must one be suffering from not to see this?

Furthermore, how is it segregation when children of ANY RACE, ethnicity or cultural background can attend? No one has said white kids can not attend the African-centered or black focused schools. Segregation was predicated on the idea that blacks could not attend the same schools as their white counterparts. This is not the case with the African-centered school. My son attended the Afrikan Peoples Action School (APAS) in Trenton, NJ for his entire elementary school experience. In such an institution ALL CHILDREN are welcome, but in this dynamic it is pointed out that George Washington cut down the cherry tree and crossed the Delaware but it is also conveyed that he was a slave-trader that owned over 300 slaves, reportedly raped black women and sold a Blackman for a jar of molasses. This is the TRUTH! This is real and complete EDUCATION, and not legendary, lying lore!

There can be no greater tragedy than to forget one's origin and finish despised and hated by the people among whom one grew up. To have that happen would be the sort of thing to make me rise up from my grave.
Paul Robeson, 1938

Next the article lauds the mother that lost her 15 year old son to gun violence when she said the following in opposition to the African-centered school "Martin Luther King and so many of our fathers fought to come together so black and white can be together, for us to sit in the front of the bus together. What we're doing is all segregating each other. We should be one…" Again this in NOT about segregating each other, it’s about creating a true and accurate historical educational system that ALL people can participate in and benefit from. Now let’s get to the reality of segregation in 2008. At what point will we realize that America and the west are as segregated as it’s ever been? When you get on the bus in your hood how many white people do you see sitting next to you (front or back)? When you gaze across the street, up and down your block how many white faces do you see? When you look around your classroom in your inner-city public school how many white faces do you see? Few and far in between I’m afraid.

Martin Luther King and our fathers who fought with him set out to accomplish a great work…changing the hearts, minds and attitudes of Americas white majority…unfortunately the only thing that changed were “paper-precepts” i.e., laws, while the hearts, minds and attitudes of the white majority remained exactly the same as they were when Martin Luther King lie bleeding from the neck on a Memphis motel balcony. In the late fourth quarter of the Civil Rights initiative Martin left us what was in my opinion, his most valuable lesson. This lesson came in the form of a premonition of sorts and was conveyed to his close friend, confidant and brother Harry Belafonte. The message was “Brother Harry…I believe we are integrating into a burning house…”

To the good people of Toronto Canada who have set out to accomplish a great work…changing the hearts, minds, and attitudes of black youth…in the spirit of Martin Luther King, Malcolm X, Booker T. Washington, Maria Stewart, Frederick Douglass, Kwame Nkrumah, and all the many…OPEN THAT SCHOOL…By Any Means Necessary!!! At least Black History will then be for an entire school year!

… “A final reason for the African centered curriculum is the nature of the population composition in the United States. This country is composed of a variety of ethnic and racial groups. As such the country should properly be conceived of as the United States of various ethnic, national and racial groups. The Eurocentric curriculum, more or less, serves the cultural interest of most European ethnic groups. It does not serve the cultural interest of most people of African descent. Since population patterns are such that most African Americans live in predominantly African American communities and attend predominantly African American schools, it is logical that they should be taught from an African perspective if they so choose…”
Jacob H. Curruthers…. Essay on African Centered Education

Just a little bit more of tax payer Public School history on my way out the door…

It was Georg Wilhelm Hegel who, in order to lend credence to his ignorant assumption that Africa “has no history”, proposed that Egypt be severed from the continent and made a part of a pseudo-geographic land mass called the “Near East.” Hegel knew that Egypt was a black African civilization and that the certain Africans were the Egyptians, but this fact did not support his racist supposition that Africa had no history, so he had to take Egypt out of Africa. But, Hegel did not stop there. To explain the great civilizations of Carthage, Tunis, Cyrenica, etc., Hegel proposed that “North Africa” be considered a part of Europe ascribing it the appellation “European Africa.” The falsities, ideas, and assumptions of the racist George Wilhelm Hegel, are the very same ideas that shaped and developed the American Educational System. This is not good for black people in general, let alone our children.

Although the German Hegel did not contribute directly to the American System of education himself, it was rather through his “Hegelian” students (as they were called) William Torrey Harris, Horace Mann and John Dewey that his ideas were laid at the foundation of American education. In The Origins of American Philosophy of Education, J.J. Chambliss states that William Torrey Harris was the "central figure in rationalism's influence on American philosophy of education" (Chambliss). In Public Schools and Moral Education, Neil G. McCluskey informs us that the "consensus among historians of education and students of social thought clearly indicates that Horace Mann, William Torrey Harris, and John Dewey can be considered the triumvirate whose thought has most affected the creation and development of the present philosophy of the American public school" (McCluskey).

Neil McClusky informs us that “the roots of Harris's work in the American educational system were firmly planted in Hegelian principles.” The following definition of “Hegelian” principles shows us how Hegel’s students believed that all power to control the individual should be held by the institution. “To the American Hegelians, education was an effective tool for developing the individual mind to promote "self-activity," or to cultivate the mind to a point at which every individual became entirely aware of his position as a subject in the complex interactions of reality. As Harris put it: "...education is the process through which the individual is led to attain his freedom" (Harris, Twentieth Annual Report). Although the ultimate goal of Hegelian education is freedom of the individual, "freedom" in the Hegelian context denotes a dependence on the influence of institutions. Institutions, as the embodiment of man's rational behavior and thought, are the ultimate tool of freedom.”

For more on the Hegelian school of thought: http://gyral.blackshell.com/hegel/hegedu.html

Book List
Boone, Richard G. ed. by William T.
INTELLIGENTNEWZNET...INTELLIGENT KIDZ

INTELLIGENTNEWZNET
INFORMING the HIP-HOP COMMUNITY

INTELLIGENT KIDZ

What’s good Family? I know I’ve been off the radar for an extended minute but believe me I have an excellent excuse…At the end of last year while I was out on the “It’s NO LONGER Smart to be DUMB” promo tour supporting my new album “Wise Intelligent iz…The Talented Timothy Taylor”, I got the chance of a lifetime and I could NOT turn it down. As you all know (and for the ones who don’t) the focus of my mind, body, and soul over the past 15 plus years has been on community education, upliftment, and development, but outside of doing lectures, workshops, and panel discussions I’ve only had the chance to put most of my ideas, thoughts, opinions, questions, and solutions on wax. While this was cool for a minute it doesn’t really have the power to realistically make a substantive and long lasting positive impact in the lives of our youth. Things have snowballed way out of control in our communities and we can longer afford to just sit on the sidelines talking about the issues and just hoping for things to get better. I think its past time for us to start balancing out our theories with direct community action, and I can’t think of a better way for me at this time in my life, than helping to facilitate an after-school youth program right in my own hood!

So at the beginning of November 2007 I/we linked up with the Arline Institute to help implement an After-School tutoring program. This exciting and powerful new youth program is not only specifically designed to answer the educational and social needs of our youth, it will provide them with invaluable life skills and lessons that will prepare them to live in the real world in real time. Everything kicked off officially at the beginning of this year (2008), and is off to a fantastic start. The initial jump off is a 10 week program and it’s in most of the Trenton public schools as we speak. Intelligent Kidz Inc. is the "liaison” between Trenton Public Schools, Parents, their Children and the Arline Institute. Over the last few months we have been out in the community making the parents and students aware of the FREE tutoring services that are available to them. After which we help to facilitate the implementation of said tutoring program in the Trenton School District.

Here goes a brief background on the Arline Institute …

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

February 2008

Arline Institute, Inc. a mid-Atlantic regional educational consulting firm, provides comprehensive supplemental educational services (SES) through our ‘Back-To-Basics’ tutoring program. The ‘Back-To-Basics’ program is specifically designed for students attending public and charter schools designated "in need of improvement" by the U.S. Department of Education under the No Child Left Behind Act (2002). Arline Institute instructors work closely with parents, schools, community organizations, and local educators to implement our research-based tutoring program. Arline instructors ensure that all students improve academically by providing appropriate support, motivation and small group instruction tailored to their individual needs.

At the Arline Institute our mission is to attain and maintain leadership in the mid-Atlantic region by providing rigorous standards-based tutoring and educational consulting to underachieving urban public school students. Arline Institute is approved by the New Jersey, Maryland and Pennsylvania Departments of Education as a provider of Supplemental Educational Services (SES) and other educational services. During this academic year, 2007-2008, we seek to be recognized as the major provider of supplemental educational services in New Jersey, Maryland and Pennsylvania. We fulfill this mission through strategic partnerships with school districts, charter schools and non-profit agencies focused on underachieving urban students.

For more information about our after-school tutoring program please reach out to us at…

intelligentmuzik@yahoo.com

Now that everything is up and moving strong, I can step back into the mix. I apologize to everyone whose been trying to get at me over the last 2 months…I sincerely appreciate all your LOVE and SUPPORT! I could not have gotten this far without you! So with all that being said…I’m BACK in the building and I’m ready to go to work…I’m going to reach out to everybody that reached out to me over the last few months for interviews and features…We’re going to make it happen!

For booking, interviews, features, and shows please contact Born Free at bornfree9@hotmail.com / intelligentmuzik@yahoo.com

I am also very proud to announce that I am apart of “The Platinum Speakers Bureau”. For more information about this dynamic bureau and how to book me for lectures and panel discussions please reach out to Saideh Browne at sb@platinumspeakersbureau.com

I’ve begun working on the 2nd period in my Back to School series…. “Wise Intelligent iz…The UNCONKABLE Djezuz Djonez”, and I guarantee that this album is going to be more than just another CD in your collection.

INTELLIGENTNEWZNET

INFORMING
the HIP-HOP COMMUNITY

INTELLIGENT OUTRAGE…THEY JUST DON’T GET IT!

This article contains excerpts from Wise Intelligent’s
forthcoming book … “"3/5 of an MC: The Manufacturing of a Dumbed-Down
Rapper.”

Knowledge is the base of existence that I…

Build upon ya intelligence through the power of the real…

Wisdom is a purified word or an act…

That can bring rap back in fact I’m ill….

Get knowledge get the wisdom but in everything you gettin…

Hope you get the understanding so you’ll see the picture
clear…” - Wise Intelligent “I’m Him” from Wise Intelligent iz…The
Talented Timothy Taylor

When I say that "Its No
Longer Smart To BE Dumb" I am by no means referring exclusively to rappers
and/or the Hip Hop community. Rather, I am speaking also of the greater
"black" community and all of its parts!

In my hood, a.k.a. New Jersey, New
Jerusalem or Dirty Jerz (which ever you prefer), the Department of Education
(DOE) and all of its parts are doing more harm to black youth than the sum-total
of all so-called "gangster" or "misogynistic" rap lyrics
combined!

According to an August 17, 2007 Trenton Times
article entitled "Schools Fall Short on Test Reports" we are informed
that no less than 618 schools in New
Jersey "did not meet their yearly progress
standards." The report goes on to say that "517 schools went two or
more years in a row without meeting the standards" and that "38
schools failed to meet the standards for seven years in a row." Seven?!

But here is the stinger for me. Trenton, NJ
(a.k.a. The Land
of Truth) which
is barely 7.5 square miles in area has 15 schools on the list? This is
damn near every school in the district. Not to mention that Trenton Central
High School and every high school in
the immediate suburbs (Ewing, Hamilton, Lawrence, Nottingham)
are also on the list of 618 failing schools.

However this analysis is not to
determine whether No Child Left Behind and its policy of policing schools works
or not (we all no that it doesn't), the point is that the ineffectiveness
of the American "educational" system at educating black youth was and
has been a problem long before No Child Left Behind and is no new revelation.
The heartache comes in seeing the doctors, ministers, and
cremators of the black community launch national campaigns attacking
the very same black children (the "Hip Hop" community) who have
been failed by a system that is designed for them to fail!

I have heard all sorts of excuses
to explain away the reality of the situation; excuses like "these children
are uneducable" or that its "bad parenting" or simply
"these children don't get it" or "their parents don't get
it." Not once have we seen a thorough examination and evaluation of the
system in which the children are embedded as the direct cause of their failure
to "get it."

When we add the fact that 98% of
all black youth attend these failing public schools the seriousness of the
issue is made apparent!

In a 20/20 report entitled “Zoned Out of a Good Education,”
John Stossel tells the story of 18-year-old Dorian Cain of South Carolina, who
was still “struggling to read a single sentence in a first-grade level book”
when he met him. This, despite the fact that his “public schools had spent
nearly $100,000 on him over 12 years.” They squandered over $100,000, wasted 12
years of this boy’s life, and never taught him to read? This is a kid who’s
trying to take advantage of Brown vs. The Board of Education [Mr. Cosby], but
the system failed him. We are not talking about calculus, scientific notations
or quantum physics, they couldn’t teach him to read?

Before
you say that the child may have had a ‘learning disability” (excuse used by
inadequate teaching staffs), lets see what happened next. So, Stossel says, the
news program "20/20" sent Dorian to Sylvan, a private learning
center, “to see if teachers there could teach Dorian to read when the South Carolina public
schools failed to.” Astonishingly, the report tells us that this learning
center “Using computers and workbooks, Dorian's reading
went up two grade levels -- after just 72 hours of instruction.” In just
three days the private learning center was able to boost this young mans
reading by two whole grade levels?

“I was a seed with a
seed, I mean a baby with a baby…

Half my teachers
called me crazy when they failed to educate me…

They said I had a
deficit, disorder of attention…

Couldn’t teach me to
read so they pegged me for prison…” - Wise Intelligent, “Go With Me”
from “Wise Intelligent iz…The Talented Timothy Taylor”

The
public school system is a joke, and an insult to parents and children who fail
for want of a good education. It was Bill Cosby who went on an endless rant
about how “the lower economic and lower middle economic
people are [not*] holding to their end in this deal” and that “Brown Versus the Board of Education is no longer the white
person’s problem.” I mean Mr. Huxtable went as far as mocking the broken
English spoken by poor black youth, saying “It [your
child] can’t speak English. It doesn’t want to speak English. I can’t even talk
the way these people talk. “Why you ain’t where you is go, ra…” But, 18
year old Dorian Cain wanted to learn to speak English properly. His mother
thought he’d be taught language arts and English literature in his 12 years of
“taking advantage” of Brown vs. Topeka,
but the system failed him miserably! Why are we so afraid to look at the root
cause of our issues!

Dorian
Cain’s mother, Gena Cain, summed it all up when she said that she was “thrilled with Dorian's progress but disappointed with his
public schools.” With Sylvan,”she says ‘it's a huge improvement. And they're doing what
they're supposed to do. They're on point. But I can't say the same for the
public schools," she said. . “Gena Cain”
the report says, “like most parents, doesn't have a
choice which public school her kids attend. She
followed the rules, and her son paid the price.” Yes, Gena Cain followed all the rules, but
she had no idea that her son would end up dumber after twelve years of school
than he was when he entered.

The large majority of today’s rappers – mainstream, underground,
conscious or dumbed-down – are the product of the same machine that failed
Dorian Cain. The average rap artist is Dorian Cain and Dorian Cain the average
rap artist. No doubt, a young Dorian Cain entered the “educational” process
willing and eager to learn, but the machine destroyed him. It mutilated his
self esteem and devoured his self image and pride.
Janice Hale in her study Learning While
Black “compared the educational progress of
children who had just entered Head Start with those who had been there for two
years. She found that children who had just entered performed better,
regardless of social demographics. The older children who attended Head Start
the longest possessed lower scores.” After
considering the results of her research Hale concluded that “African American children do not enter school disadvantaged, they leave disadvantaged. There’s nothing wrong with children, but there
is clearly something wrong with what happens to them in school.” –
Jawanza Kunjufu, Black Students, Middle Class Teachers, p. 95, 2002

When we add the psychological effects of the racism and
discrimination that many black youth have to deal with just sitting in most
American classrooms throughout the school year the problem becomes even more
serious. For all of us who are of the opinion that racism is no longer a factor
in America’s
schools just Google “The Jenna 6.”

Hell is the human bondage…suffered when inner conscious

Go undiscovered, due to ego and a lack of knowledge

You should go back to college, tell your professor’s for
profit

They taught you nothing, then Molotov coattail bomb it! Wise Intelligent “Intelligent Wise” for
Wise Intelligent iz…The Talented Timothy Taylor

As it is our policy to never present a problem without
presenting what we feel is the INTELLIGENT solution, here goes the solution. It
is obvious what works and has been working in black communities throughout the
country for the past 30 years and even before the 1960’s in some parts of the US.
Wherever you find an independent black school with an Afrocentric curriculum
educating black youth from a psychological perspective based on their history
and experiences as a people, you also find a high percentage of exceptional
students with high self-esteem and enhanced racial pride; two elements that are
essential for any person or group of people to build! And if you don’t believe
me then go ask every other racial group on this planet! From Jewish to Amish they
NOT only teach their child Reading, Writing, and Arithmetic, they teach them
about their history (good and bad), the magnificence of their culture, and most
importantly self-love and self-worth. Why are we so afraid to say what needs to
be said and do what needs to be done to fix our problems!

The Council of Independent Black
Institutions (CIBI) (www.cibi.org) is a national model of the kind of
curriculum that works for black youth. With about 40 small schools nation wide
this institution continues to churn out some of the best and brightest black
minds in the country. However, it is the “guards” at the gate of the black
community who quickly say “that’s segregation?” But, where have they been? America’s
schools have been segregated since before and after Brown vs. The Board of
Education. In a report done
by the Community Service Society of New York we read the following:

Public
Education: Still Segregated, Still Unequal

“70
percent of black students across the country attend schools that have a
majority of minority students. One out of three is in schools with at least 90
percent students of color.”

America’s
schools are, today, just as segregated as they were before Brown vs. Board of Education. “More
recently,” says Edwin Schur, “the “Coleman Report” on equality of educational
opportunity has made clear that, almost fifteen years after the Supreme Court’s
historic school desegregation decisions, segregated schooling is the rule
rather than the exception across the nation.” – Edwin M. Schur, Our
Criminal Society, p. 48, 1969; James S. Coleman, Equality of Educational
Opportunity, Washington, D.C.: U.S.
Government Printing Office, 1966

The argument that independent
Afrocentric schools or curriculums are based on the practice of “segregation”
is evidence of a pathological flight from reality. The reality is that
segregation, as stated in the above report “is the rule rather than the
exception.” Yes the report was from 1966 but I used it to compare with the
present situation and the following report:

“Those who do not want their
children to be handicapped by the learning problems of others who have suffered generations of oppression,
ignorance, and neglect simply abandon the city schools that these students were
being integrated into and fled to richer suburban schools. Over 52% of
Americans live in the suburban areas surrounding the large metropolises (Elam,
1993, p.196). Today, Blacks, Hispanics, and poorer children dominate 23 of the
nations 25 largest urban school systems (Frady, 1985, p.13). This has raised a permanent fissure in our
public schools and has separated them into two separate and unequal class
systems - one suburban, privileged and mostly white; and the other inner-city,
poorer and mostly non-white.”
- Amy Golba How Does Education in Urban Schools Compare to Suburban Schools?
Communicated by Marsha Heck.

In light of the above reality we must EMPLOY WHAT WORKS by
“ANY MEANS NECESSARY!” But let’s get back to what works.

One highly publicized example of what works was highlighted
on an episode of the Oprah Winfrey Show. On this show Oprah spoke with black
educators from a Ohio school district I believe, who separated the black
student body (who had lower scores than everyone else) and black staff from the
rest of the schools students and staff so that the black students and teachers
could really see what was at stake. This was effective because it allowed black
students to step out of the system and view it from a perspective that spoke
directly to their history and experiences. Today those same black children are
well above average and in some areas achieving higher than their peers of other
nationalities.

The point is that we have a severe and extreme crisis of
inadequate, inefficient and incapable education that will require severe and
extreme measures to repair. The ‘guards” that have positioned themselves at the
gates of the black community must begin to employ what works for black youth
regardless to who that course of action might offend. Our condition is too
severe to burden ourselves with being “politically correct” or with upsetting
the current power structure or some “underwriter.” OUR CHILDREN ARE DYING FROM THE INSIDE OUT!!!

This by far is the most important issue confronting the
black community, but somehow Michael Vick, Akon and the rappers have garnered
more attention and rebuke than a system of “education” that is responsible for
creating more Michael Vicks, 50 Cents, Snoop Doggs, CamRon’s, Stan “Tookie”
Williams and “Freeway” Rick Ross’s than all three decades of Hip Hop music
combined!

“And now the elders, act like we the reason why

As if our generation, fell from out the fu*kin sky

I guess the fruit are falling further from the trees

Cuz nobody wants to harvest, what’s become of black seeds” - Wise Intelligent “Set U Free” from Wise Intelligent
iz…Talented Timothy Taylor”

I guess the elders, leaders and guards of the black
community, are like the black youth in my hoods public schools “THEY JUST DON”T GET IT!

WISE INTELLIGENT

Proper

Education

Always

Corrects

Errors

It’s NO LONGER Smart to be DUMB!

INTELLIGENTNEWZNET...It's NO LONGER Smart to be DUMB!

INTELLIGENTNEWZNET

INFORMING the HIP-HOP COMMUNITY

IT’S NO LONGER SMART TO BE
DUMB!

By Wise Intelligent

On July 17th, I will drop my second solo album, Wise Intelligent iz…The Talented Timothy
Taylor and I sincerely appreciate AllHipHop.com for giving me this
opportunity to connect and build with you.

Now conventional wisdom would
say I should use this forum to exclusively promote my new album, but me being me
I thought I would use this time to speak on some of the critical issues facing
not only Hip-Hop but the Black Community as well. I'll offer a few
solutions…

The title of this article is also the motto and slogan of Wise
Intelligent, Intelligent Muzik and the INTELLIGENTNEWZNET. The slogan speaks to
my position that we as a community (Hip-Hop/Black) have succumbed to the idea
that ignorance is not only bliss, but profitable. It was Jay-Z who said “I
dumb down for my audience and doubled my dollars / They criticize me for it yet
they all yell 'Holla.'" The focus of this article is not to determine
whether or not ignorance or dumbing down lyrics is profitable, rather to
demonstrate why such an idea is counterproductive, self-destructive,
anti-Hip-Hop and ultimately - anti-Black.

When we consider the fact that
Black people and the Black community (worldwide) are the leading victims of
nearly every life threatening disease, assault, injustice and/or circumstance
(be it consequence or contrived), the INTELLIGENT man, woman or child must ask
themselves why for the past 15 years have the overwhelming majority of
mainstream MCs/rappers (whichever you prefer) NOT addressed some of the more
substantive issues and concerns with anymore aggression than a Public Broadcast
Station PSA? And when you do find a mainstream MC/rapper who steps up and tries
to give us a little more substance the overwhelming majority of the mainstream
press down plays the whole thing. I mean Nelly should be just as known in our
community for his "Jes Us 4 Jackie” organization that raises awareness about
leukemia and bone marrow donor programs across the country as he is known for
his “Tip Drill” song and controversy. It’s NO LONGER
Smart to be DUMB!

I mean, take HIV/AIDS for example: Of the 1.2
million Americans living with HIV, the AIDS virus, in 2003, 47 percent were
African-American, even though Blacks account for only 12.3 percent of the U.S.
population. In 2004, Black men were diagnosed with HIV/AIDS at a rate 603.7
percent higher than that of White men. Black women were diagnosed in 2004 at a
rate 1,993 percent higher than that of White women. Even in the face of such
decimating statistics, it seems that all we hear from mainstream Black Radio,
Video networks and Black artists is “Pop Lock and Drop it,” “I’m a Flirt,” and
countless other recordings that perpetuate promiscuity and inevitably the spread
of HIV/AIDS? Please tell me why they (the media) are not aggressively pushing
the fact that Common has linked up with the “KNOW HIV/AIDS” campaign and
program? How many HIV/AIDS infected inner-city kids would have greatly benefited
from knowing about his connection to this organization just like the GAP
financially benefited greatly from his connection to Hip-Hop?
It’s NO LONGER Smart to be
DUMB!

Then there is the Homicide rate: From 1996 to 2000 in a single
neighborhood in Trenton, NJ,
homicide rose 154% amongst teenagers. Between 1999 and 2003, Blacks in
Summit County, Ohio, were killed at a rate of 14.6 per
100,000, compared with 2.7 per 100,000 Whites. At the moment that I am writing
this article Philadelphia is rapidly approaching its 200th
homicide in just a little over six months. Still, I have not heard any
mainstream rappers dealing with this issue with any level of understanding and
urgency? It’s NO LONGER Smart to be
DUMB!

Now I know a lot of you might be saying at this point that if
your favorite mainstream MC/rapper puts those types of socially and or
politically relative themes on his or her albums or projects they won’t sell CDs
to the same degree. Well if that’s the case then we really should start dealing
with the deeper reasons behind that, because artists in other genres and
communities are not suffering any financial backlash for being activists and
spokespersons for social causes, as a matter of fact their careers are often
enhanced because of it. Take for example, Drew Barrymore, Meg Ryan ,Salma Hayek,
Sheryl Crow, George Clooney, Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, Bono, Elton John,
Leonardo DiCaprio, and countless others who have all stepped up and used
activism to strengthen their careers, and call attention to issues ranging from
the environment, poverty, education, animal rights, to the genocide in Darfur.

My point for bringing these other entertainers and what they do into
this discussion is to show you that it is NOT professional suicide or “old
school” to make your art socially relevant and representative of ideas that
would push us past our current state of confusion and self-destruction. I mean
if George Clooney can speak about the issues in Darfur and his movies still go over $100,000,000, why
can’t I expect to be financially secure by speaking about the same things?
It’s NO LONGER Smart to be
DUMB!

Now what I do see from us are Hip-Hop artists and organizations
galvanizing and mobilizing their manpower, wealth, resources and fan bases to
vote for some bulls**t politicians who will continue in the long standing
American custom of handing down shallow policies and signing in rhetorical laws,
that only serve to cool down our revolting spirit, but are never intended to
honestly address the root of the problems. We can “Rock the Vote” until the
b***h tips over, but using voting as our main and in most times ONLY viable
strategy for change, I’m sad to say, is a tragic mistake and will never fix the
core and central problems that keep popping up over and over again. The only
thing we haven’t tried since the Black Wall Street days is to establish a solid
infrastructure, which in all reality is our ONLY true protection from the racist
policies of both Jackasses and Elephants, and if you don’t believe me just ask
the Jewish, Chinese, and Amish Communities! It’s NO LONGER
Smart to be DUMB!

Hip-Hop, to prevent not only the death of itself,
but to prevent the death and extinction of the very people from which it came,
must look back into its root and rediscover the ACTIVISM of its founders; Afrika
Bambataa in particular. To affect change in his Bronx, New York community,
Afrika Bambataa who was a member of the Black Spades street gang, organized the
youth in a way that would motivate them towards positive attitudes and
lifestyles through artistic expression; namely MC/rapping, deejaying,
breakdancing and graffiti art. This newly organized outlet for urban expression
deterred many youth from the violence of ghetto life and gave birth to the
multi-billion dollar industry that is Hip-Hop. It’s NO LONGER Smart to be DUMB!

This ACTIVISM is wherein Hip-Hop’s true power exists. And not only
Hip-Hop’s power but the power of the Black Community is only demonstrated when
all its members are active. As I often say “Black people did not get the right
to vote, by voting.” It was the activism of its members that made this possible.
Black radio, the Black church, the Black artists, the Black politicians, Black
athletes, actors/actresses, entrepreneurs were for the most part active in the
struggle to liberate the Black community from injustice, poverty and
ignorance. It’s NO LONGER Smart to be
DUMB!

Unless we, the members of the Hip-Hop and/or Black Community
are reconnected to the power of ACTIVISM we are in effect powerless! The MC is
only as powerful as she or he is active. The same can be said of the DJ,
Graffiti writer, politician, pastor, teacher, entrepreneur, parent, mentor, etc.
Metaphysics teaches us that the powers or qualities of an entity (human or
Divine) are distributed through all its parts and that only through the
connection with the entity are these powers released. The entity in this case is
activism; and as long as we are not connected to that source we can not release
its powers and get about the business of healing our communities. It’s NO LONGER Smart to be DUMB!

Although the causes of most of the problems we face are much more
inconspicuous these days, the effects of them are evidence of their existence.
As stated above we are the leading HIV/AIDS victims, Homicide, etc. and when we
add Incarceration rates, Heart Disease, Stroke, Diabetes, Cancer, Obesity,
Infant Mortality, single parent households, high-school drop out rates, poverty
and illiteracy to the list it becomes apparent that Nas was not so clairvoyant
when he surmised that “Hip Hop Is Dead.” Hip-Hop is merely a microcosm of the
Black Community and reflects in real time, the Black community’s feelings,
attitudes and struggles. Knowing this, we can deduce that, it is not Hip-Hop,
but rather the Black Community that is DEAD!

It’s dead because it
refuses to take the necessary steps toward saving its children and their future
and maybe the future of the collective BLACK WORLD! Considering the current
state of the Hip Hop/Black community we can not in the words of a fellow MC be
an “MC first, and an activist second,” we must develop a social theory that
requires that every individual regardless of his vocation, be an activist first
and what ever his occupation, vocation or office is, it should facilitate that
activism!

We the Hip-Hop/Black community and all of our members were and
still are born into aversive conditions, be they apparent or inconspicuous,
which require an active effort to attack, escape and free ourselves from them.
Until we begin to develop a social theory that determines the behavior and
direction of the Black community and its future; until this social theory is
predicated on the development of Black infrastructure that facilitates the
desire of poor people to do the right thing; until we stop giving the highest
value in life to making money; until we 187 our anti-intellectual,
anti-theoretical and A-Historical behavior we can convincingly argue that THE BLACK RACE IS DEAD!

We
must start stepping up in mass numbers to address our issues, because if ignored
these problems and plagues will continue to multiply and be inherited by our
children’s children! I promise you that Activism will NOT take away from you
skill, your beats, your reputation, your swagger, your ability to have sex, or
your bank account; in fact it will only strengthen your career and give you the
freedom to express more than just one aspect of yourself! The Hip-Hop and Black
Community must immerse ourselves in more INTELLIGENT DIALOGUE, more INTELLIGENT BEHAVIOR, more INTELLIGENT MUZIK, and more WISE INTELLIGENT because, It’s
absolutely NO LONGER Smart to be DUMB!

Thank you for giving me this moment to build with you, and remember
my new album Wise Intelligent iz…The
Talented Timothy Taylor is coming out on July 17th on Intelligent Muzik
and Shaman Work Recordings….

For information about Wise Intelligent,
Intelligent Muzik, the INTELLIGENTNEWZNET, and Shaman Work Records please hit us
up at www.myspace.com/wiseintelligent, www.shamanwork.com

It’s NO LONGER Smart to be
DUMB!

INTELLIGENTNEWZNET...YOU AIN'T HIP HOP!

INTELLIGENTNEWZNET

INFORMING the HIP-HOP COMMUNITY

An Intelligent Word…YOU AIN’T HIP HOP!

Here we go again. I love Hip Hop, although, not as much as I love the people that created it and continue to shape its destination. With that being said, I do have some things that I dislike about Hip Hop or more specifically the people who say they “love” it. I’m talking about the “neo-conservative” crusaders for what is “real” Hip Hop! You know the religious Hip Hop “purest” that draw a line between what they consider “real” and for lack of a single term “commercial/mainstream/jiffy-pop” or just plain ole “rap.”

Some argue that “real” Hip Hop has been regulated to the “underground” by major record companies who only want to exploit, control and further ruin Hip Hop culture. Today the so-called “real” Hip Hop has become synonymous with the “underground” so whatever is not played on mainstream radio and or video has become “underground” or “the real” Hip Hop and this, in my opinion, is utter bullshit! Now I would agree that the major corporations have taken control of Hip Hop from the financial perspective (funding, distribution, deciding which songs get put into regular radio/video rotation), but to arbitrarily call and or label the “underground” “real” and the “mainstream” “fake” is quite frankly bullshit.

I mean we actually have people debating whether or not Hip Hop is a snap or a snare, a white-tee or a button-up. Then there’s the “real” Hip Hop breakdown by territory i.e., is “the south” Hip Hop? Is “the west” Hip Hop? Is the “mid-west” Hip Hop? I read an article recently entitled “Did the South Kill Hip Hop?” You know, that’s some straight dumb shit and one of the key reasons for the weakness in Hip Hop right now! Many so-called “underground” or “real” MC’s think that as long as they don’t say what 50 Cent, Lil Wayne or Jay-Z says, then they are repping the “real” Hip Hop? I’ve listened to a lot of Hip Hop in my life. I’ve made a lot of Hip Hop in my few days and I have a fairly sound history of the culture itself, and I know for a fact that it was/is all this infantile tribalism and lack of infrastructure that facilitated the financial takeover of Hip Hop by alien forces and not a fuckin snap beat!

You see I can still remember a time when Ice-T (LA) used to roll with Afrika Islam (New York). I can remember a time when Afrika Bambaataa made music and created an organization that reached out and embraced every sound and culture in the universe! I can remember when I (Trenton) was on tour with Ice Cube (Compton) and Too Short (Oakland). I can remember when Hip Hop radio and video shows used to play joints by Boogie Down Productions, The Jungle Brothers, Kid N Play, Slick Rick, Salt N Pepa, Heavy D, Queen Latifah, X-Clan, NWA, 2-Live Crew, Kid Frost, Rakim, PRT, LL, Paris, MC Hammer, Freshco and Miz, MC Lyte, Kool Moe Dee, Public Enemy, Nice and Smooth, Tribe Called Quest, The D.O.C., The Gheto Boys, JJ Fad, Tone Loc, Young MC, Shinehead, Milk D, Just Ice, Chubb Rock, RUN DMC, Sir Mix A Lot, The Fresh Prince, Big Daddy Kane, Kool G. Rap, King Tee, The Hieroglyphics, and Biz Markie all on the same program! And regardless of where they were from, what beats they rocked to, or what subject matter they chose to talk about, they ALL were regarded as REAL HIP HOP!

The spectrum of my associates in Hip Hop straddle an unbroken span of mainstream and underground artists from Trenton, NJ, to California to Japan to Europe and back to the Tri-State area and the one thing I know for sure is that 50 Cent is no less Hip Hop than MF Doom! And if you’re out there still yelling and screaming that the subject matter is the defining factor in determining who is “real” and who is “fake” I have some very sobering news for you, cuz frankly speaking, the large majority of so-called “underground” rappers, yes “rappers” just like many mainstream rappers, ain’t saying shit either! In fact, most of these “underground” or “real” rappers are caught up in their own “fantasy mentality” and apart from talking about magical amulets, funny-colored weed, and how they’ll take-out any “mainstream” or “commercial” rapper, they never say anything socially relative, thought provoking, or political either!

Now don’t get it twisted; I really enjoy MC’s/Rappers like MF Doom, but no more or less than I do 50 Cent. Well, actually, I am a bigger fan of 50 Cent. But just look at these two rappers for a moment, they have more in common than not. The only apparent difference is production styles. Music aside MF Doom, like 50 Cent is a marketing genius. MF Doom is doing voice over work (Sherman the Giraffe) on a cartoon series on Adult Swim (Perfect Hair Forever), and 50 Cent has landed a couple of movie roles. MF Doom has a super-hero doll on the market, and I read that he also has teamed up with Nike to create his own shoes now known as the “Nike Dunk High Premium SB MF DOOM”. 50 Cent has sneakers, clothing, a book and Vitamin Water on the market. I do not believe that MF Doom would pass up the opportunity to have a book, a clothing line, or a “Formula Doom” Vitamin Water on the market. This is evident in the fact that he has a “commercial” action-figure and works with the Cartoon Network! My point is that MF Doom is just as commercial as 50 Cent no matter how we slice it, AND THAT IS NOT A BAD THING!

I guess the $400 million dollar question is “which of these two rappers (50 Cent or MF Doom) are not REAL Hip Hop and for what reasons?” It can’t be because of the lyrical content and in light of the facts; it can’t be because of mainstream “commercialism.” So tell me why does only one of these rappers wear the title of “the real” Hip Hop and the other one labeled as the “mainstream” or commercialized” sell-out of “real” Hip Hop??? Proponents of this position have argued and continue to argue frivolous points like “it’s the beats?” They say 50 Cent and others are making R&B, not Hip Hop? I have even heard it argued that a “real” Hip Hop beat, must have a snare? In the event that said track contains a dreadfully mainstream and commercializing “snap” or clap instead of a snare, they say it’s not “real” Hip Hop?

Listen…Hip Hop samples everything from folk, jazz, blues, country, rock, pop, metal, be-bop, ska, reggae, calypso, movies, sirens, gun shots, world music, classical, Indian, continental African, Arabian, and all other types and sorts of music including the “underground” or “real” Hip Hop kryptonite that is R&B. Whodini’s hit record “Friends” was no “Boom Bap” track and they were singing in the chorus? Was it not Hip Hop? Melle Mel’s “The Message” was no “Boom Bap” track, but I ask you, was it Hip Hop? Was LL Cool J “I Need Love” a real track Hip Hop? The Main Source “Looking at the Front-door” was an R&B sample I believe. Who are these assholes who wish to put Hip Hop in a box of monotonous kicks and snares? My guess is that they are a small crew of rhythm-less “corny” mother-fuckers who have never been FRESH!

They run around in obscurity on the other side of their computer screens debating whether wearing gators is Hip Hop or not? Yes, a lot of mainstream rappers occasionally rocked a pair of gators, but so did some of the illest “underground” rappers in the business of scripting rhyme, like Freddy “Bumby Knuckles” Foxxx and believe me I have the magazine to prove it! I dare you simple “niggas” to say that Bump Knuckles is not “real” Hip Hop because he likes to put on some fly shit occasionally! You wouldn’t dare! Educated rapper of UTFO wore gators and suits, Jekyll and Hyde wore gators and suits, Double Trouble in Wild Style wore full tuxedos, Dane Dane, Slick Rick, were always dressed up so what the hell are you talking about?

Some misinformed people even say that Nelly, Juvenile, Baby, Lil Wayne, etc. are not Hip Hop because of their “grillz” but it was JUST-ICE that introduced most of us to “grillz.” JUST-ICE is a hip Hop icon that was so proud of his grill that he sat them atop his black leather Kangol and took a picture of them for his cover! This is my point my young “real” Hip Hoppers, Hip Hop culture is neither a “snap” nor a “snare.” It’s neither gators nor Chuck’s, white-tee nor button-up, sweat-suits nor denim, gangster nor scholar, and no, it is neither underground nor commercial. Rather, Hip Hop encompasses all of the aforementioned expressions. In fact, Hip Hop is “an urban communication…a forum of expression…a projection of ideas…a reflection of life…a manifestation of consciousness…a poetical musing…a superficial thought…a random opinion…a dream realized…or a ray of light on a situation”. It’s ALL of the above and more! 28 inch spinning rims, fly-cars, fly-girls, gaudy-jewelry, suits and fly-kicks has always been a part of Hip Hop, just as African beads, African medallions, Ostrich feathers, leather pants, and raccoon tails. EXPRESS your self, BE your self, it is your duty as an artist, but when you become an imperialist tyrant who wish to force your “form” of self-expression on others as the ONLY or “REAL” way to articulate ourselves in the world, you my friend, are no different from emperor George W. Bush and the neo-cons who wish to turn the rest of the world into the west! YOU AIN’T HIP HOP!

WISE INTELLIGENT

Proper
Education
Always
Counters
Exploitation

www.myspace.com/wiseintelligent

It’s NO LONGER Smart to be DUMB!

INTELLIGENTNEWZNET
INFORMING the HIP-HOP COMMUNITY

JUST ANOTHER DEAD NIGGER!

Yesterday the NAACP held a ceremonial burying the infamous word NIGGER! The funeral was complete with horse drawn chariots, mourners, pallbearers dressed in black and an eerie wooden coffin draped with black roses. It was like a Reality TV scene out of Tales from the Hood. Add the media to the equation; and only Puffy Combs could have thrown a bigger party. All jokes aside, I wonder if the NAACP realizes that their burying of the word NIGGER is, in fact, late! They are late by about 400 years or so because white supremacy has long since buried the word NIGGER and all of its connotations and characteristics in the hearts and minds of America and ALL of its people!

Although I understand the symbolic burying of the "N" word, I am afraid its just another case of us black people in America expending our manpower and resources to attack issues that are mere symptoms of a deeper and greater, more threatening problem. We can post billboards all over the country, march and hold funerals for dehumanizing words coming out of the mouths of our people (elders, youth, entertainers, male, female, etc.) from now into infinity, but until we find the strength of character to face the environment that created the word and the attributes of a NIGGER, we are just kidding ourselves, and amusing the rest of the world in the process!

Hip Hop and/or rappers did not create or embed the word, epithet or diatribe into the American heart and psyche. The word NIGGER as used by NWA (who I would give credit for propagating its use in Hip Hop on a mainstream level), was used to express the prevailing attitude of black people in this country for centuries before NWA or even Hip Hop were conceived. That attitude being that regardless of what a black man in America does, achieve, accomplish or fails to do, he is, in the eyes of the white-power-structure, still a NIGGER! I mean NWA stood for Niggaz wit Attitudes. Did you ever ask yourself, what did they have an attitude about? They were pissed off about the poverty, drugs, gangs, mis-education, joblessness, and police brutality that they were born and raised in and forced to deal with on a daily basis. So unless we are ready to have another funeral next week for white supremacy and its entire educational, financial, scientific, and spiritual systems these mock ceremonies will never produce any REAL results!

The word Nigger and all of the negative stereotypes that comes with it has been beat into our heads and hearts so much that the belief held by most black men in America is that whether I'm an athlete, rapper, actor/actress, professor, doctor, lawyer, beggar or thief, to the white power structure in which I am embedded, I am just a NIGGER who can run, a NIGGER who can act, a NIGGER with a degree, habit, or criminal record. All things considered, in spite of my vocation, I am still just a NIGGER! And this is another reason they chose the name NWA (Niggaz With an Attitude).

The N-Word is apart of the cancerous disease of white-supremacy and racism that has yet to be faced and exorcised out of Americas "inward parts." Why are we so afraid to face this fact? Why are we so afraid to go beyond the effects and attack the causes? Why can't we have two groups? One to deal with all the NIGGERS and all of their foul words and other group to bum rush and burn down the racist American system that created all of this bullshit from the jump! Symbolic funerals, billboards and the attached assault on Hip Hop are about as effective as burying your bills instead of paying them and dealing with your reckless spending habits that got you into debt in the first place!

Black people of all ages, genders and occupations have been using the word nigger in the exact same way in which slave-traffickers beat it into their ancestors for 260 years of chattel slavery, 100 years of lynching, Jim Crow, etc., ad infinite. The deeper problem, I find when building with young black youth in America is IDENTITY! This lack of identity is a direct result of slavery and its institutionalized, systemic method of stripping black people of their heritage, language culture, families and God. This begs of the question, "If I am not a NIGGER what am I?"

Let me just keep this real clean for you, we were not NIGGERS until we went thru the process of Niggerization at the hands of white supremacy. We were not even BLACK until we encountered white-men? The same goes for bywords and proverbs like NEGRO, COLORED, JIGABOO, SAMBO, BUCK, etc. Before we discovered white-men we donned the names of our ancestors, ancestral place or places of origin. Lack of identity has caused divisions along frivolously superficial lines amongst a people who know not from whence they came.

Dr. Bobby Wright said that "if you don't know where you're going, any road will get you there." So, when you ask your seven closest black friends "what's your nationality?" You'll more than likely get seven different answers "I'm Black" or "I'm African" or "I'm African-American" or "I'm Christian" or "I'm Muslim" or "I'm a Blood" or "I'm a Crip" everything from colors to religions. Then there's the cop out or anxiety avoidance responses "race doesn't matter" or "I just don't see color". We have been turned around and upside down for so long that we would rather be an abstraction, a non-entity, or invisible before we dare to go back and claim who we were before Kunta Kinte was forced to call himself Toby! Black man and woman your race does matter! White-supremacy taught you that YOUR race does not matter and is in fact worthless in comparison to other races; especially white ones. This is why they continue to target YOUR race with all forms of genocide in the form of CIA/COCAINE, Eugenics Programs, Tuskegee Experiments, Unfair Drug Laws, Prison Industrial Complex, etc. Your race does not matter and this is why it is on the verge of extinction!

Concerning the issue of IDENTITY or the lack thereof, let's take our leaders for instance. Being that this article highlights the NAACP's burying of the "N" word we can use the organization as our first example. How is it that in 2007 you are still the National Association for the Advancement of "COLORED" People? The term "colored" was used by whites to serve the same purpose as the word NIGGER; that is to dehumanize and disconnect you from your heritage!

Let's use our well respected elder Al Sharpton for our next example. Earlier this year when Sharpton discovered that his ancestors were possibly slaves owned by the racist Strom Thurmond's ancestors he said in an appearance on The Daily Show with John Stewart concerning the revelation "a guy asked me for an autograph: first time in my life I had to think about the reason I'm named that, is because my great grandfather was owned by someone named Jefferson Sharpton, who was married to Julia Thurmond Sharpton." This is a 70 year old leader of the black community saying that he had not before 2007 thought about the reason his last name was Sharpton? (view full report here http://lincmad.blogspot.com/2007/03/al-sharpton-on-daily-show.html)

How can the leader not know? If Al Sharpton, the leader of the assault on Don Imus and the subsequent assault on Hip Hop for its use of the word NIGGER, did not know, or ever consider how he came to be Al Sharpton until February of 2007, how in hell can we expect the average young man, woman, and child to know who they were before they were called NIGGERS!

What we must admit is that this IDENTITY problem is a pandemic crisis in the black reality and the root of many, if not all, of our woes! We know that in order to deal with the real causes of our problems as a people we must confront our past. And that requires that we confront the enemies of that past. Our FEAR of confronting those who are responsible for kidnapping, enslaving, dehumanizing and niggerizing our people is indicated by our behavior. All the talk about banning the "N" Word, degrading women and Hip Hop are all cleverly calculated evasions of the deeper problem. Getting rid of the Joe Camel cigarette ads did not stop people from smoking or cure the people of lung cancer and burying the N-word will not stop our young black men and women from seeing themselves and believing that they are NIGGERS!

So now that the movement to destroy the NIGGERS and all of his offensive words is in full effect, will their be an equally intensive effort to destroy the NIGGER makers and all of their NIGGER inducing systems? In other words after will get rid of Frankenstein are we going to confront and get rid of Dr. Frankenstein as well? Now that we've buried the N-word, what are we going to replace it with? Are we ready to back and find out who and what we were before the Niggerization process stole our minds, bodies, and souls? Are we ready to go back to when Hip Hop tried to motivate black youth to call each other, "Brother", "Sista", "Young Ladies", "Beloved", "King", "Queen", "Africans', "Gods", "Earths", and "Goddess" back in the late 80's and early 90's? Are we ready to bury the SICKCO American mentality that created the NIGGER and all his words to undermine African rebellion, revolution, unity, revolt, and rebirth? Are we ready to deal with the reality that it was a tragic mistake to let your enemy teach and train your children? Are we ready to be about the business of building for ourselves regardless of what "old-wounds" that may be "re-opened" (although they have never been closed)? Are we ready to make all efforts to take 100% control of the education, economics and politics of our people regardless to who that course of action may offend? Because if we're NOT ready to do all of those things and MORE after we get back home from the mock funeral for the N-word, then I'll conclude this with the words of my great aunts, uncles, mother, father and grandparents…. NIGGA PLEASE!

Wise Intelligent

Proper
Education
Always
Corrects
Errors

www.myspace.com/wiseintelligent

It's NO LONGER Smart to be DUMB!

INTELLIGENTNEWZNET...An Intelligent Move (Wise Intelligent declines CNN interview)

INTELLIGENTNEWZNET
INFORMING the HIP-HOP COMMUNITY

An Intelligent Move

In response to the INTELLIGENTNEWZNET article "Can I Get Just One," we were contacted by CNN who requested that Wise Intelligent appear on their station in a “discussion” with leaders of St.Sabina, the south-side Chicago church responsible for the "TRASH" rappers billboards. Wise Intelligent, being aware of the fact that the game is chess, not checkers, respectfully declined the offer to appear on CNN.

My reasoning is that, the Euro-American mass media is NOT and has NEVER been the appropriate forum to discuss let alone resolve matters concerning the African-American community! I am more than well-aware of the fact that CNN or any other mainstream American media outlet, for the most part, does not offer a solution oriented platform for black issues, but on the contrary, the platform offered is extremely conflict oriented. As a matter of fact one of the things that the whole Don Imus situation revealed was that these “reporters” and “journalists” are contractually encouraged to be argumentative and controversial. What the network wanted was for Wise Intelligent and the members of St.Sabina to get on national television, attack each other, create further divisions, and exacerbate the problem without addressing some mutual and realistic solutions.

On a 30 minute show with 15 minutes of commercials and 15 minutes of edited dialogue, there is ABSOLUTELY NO WAY any real understanding or solutions could have been discussed. Knowing that it would have played out like Wise Intelligent and Hip Hop is against the Black Church and the Black Church against Hip Hop; I refused to appear. It was more than obvious to me that CNN could not and does not have the Black community’s best interest at heart! The plan was to supply both of us with weapons and watch us attack each other in classic tribal fashion!

No disrespect but, I am NOT Cam'ron, and I refuse to be used in that way. As I said in the song "UNDA FIRE" from the Blessed Be the Poor album "I don't do this for lack of attention!"

So, being who we are and what we stand for at INTELLIGENTNEWZNET, INTELLIGENT MUZIK, etc. we called St.Sabina and spoke with Rev.Micheal L. Pfleger directly and informed him of what we felt CNN was up to, and that we were not going to allow aliens of the Black Community to sow the seeds of separation and discourse between comrades in the same struggle. Our article/blog was NOT an attack against the Church and their right to post billboards, our intention was to expand the dialogue to include the deeper issues that create and shape the environments in which we live.

When we discuss this or any other issues concerning OUR community, we will do it in the basement of the Church, or in the Intelligent Muzik conference room, NOT on CNN. Their eyes (cameras) should be banned from all discussions, meetings, and gatherings designed to solve our problems and address our concerns with each other! Do they EVER call us up and ask us to appear on CNN to discuss white kids "huffing", pedophilia in the Catholic Church, White on White crime, drug and alcohol abuse amongst the youth in hollywood, and where in the hell are those Weapons of Mass Destruction? Of course not, so why should they be offered a set at the table when we are dealing with our issues???

Wise Intelligent

Proper
Evaluation
Always
Counters
Exploitation

www.myspace.com/wiseintelligent

IT’S NO LONGER SMART TO BE DUMB!
