Mandel, Ph.D., a board-certified music therapist, accompanied by the music of Daniel Kobialka. The second CD includes the same music, without the spoken voice.

Afternoon of a Fawn includes Debussy's "Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun", plus "Adagio Cantabile" and "Pavane".

About the MARI study

Mandel introduced a music therapy for stress management program in cardiac rehabilitation at Lake Hospital System in 1991. One important component of the music therapy protocol involved Music-Assisted Relaxation and Imagery (MARI).

With Daniel Kobialka's generous consent, his music was used as a part of the music therapy protocol that was tested through a randomized, controlled trial, "Effects of Music Therapy for Stress Management on Health-Related Outcomes in Cardiac Rehabilitation". The groundbreaking study was reported in The Journal of Music Therapy.

In 2005 Kobialka and Mandel produced the compact disc recording of the MARI experience, Harmony of Mind & Body: A MARI Experience. The recording blends Mandel's spoken voice with selected tracks arranged and recorded by Daniel Kobialka, including "Going Home Medley", "Mystique", and "Air on a G-String". The music selections are extended versions of familiar themes, which incorporate properties of sedative music conducive to relaxation.

Dr. Mandel conducted a follow-up study that involved intensive analysis with individual patients who listened to the MARI CD. Findings suggest that regular listening to Harmony of Mind & Body: A MARI Experience may improve blood pressure, anxiety, stress, depression, and health-related quality of life. You can read more details of Mandel's MARI research and a summary is also available as a PowerPoint presentation, Effects of Music-Assisted Relaxation and Imagery (MARI)On Health-Related Outcomes In Cardiac Rehabilitation: Follow-up Study.

Subscribe to the Newsletter and You're Entered to Win

You are invited to learn more about this exciting contest and subscribe to the newsletter in order to have a chance to win. The drawing will be held on September 30th, 2008.

References

Mandel, S. E. (2007).
Kobialka Foundation

Hello Friends, I am sorry I have not had much time to come here and share the beat of dreams and sounds of flutes and keys, with you of late. I have been working tirelessly to develop Kobialka Foundation, a non-profit foundation that will build a Music Center for Advanced research and study in the fields of music, sound, light, vibration, for the purpose of healing; Music Therapy.

My personal favorite is donating specially designed music to terminally ill and veterans through Hospice, Hospitals, and even a special program to help Foster children and children around the world, learn music by donating musical instuments and lessons. By developing a Scholarship program to both study with Dr Kobialka, an internationally renown voilinist, composer and so much more.

Well there you have it....in a nutshell....though I could go on and on about all our projects, this is sweet and simple. We are starting a website and accepting arts and crafts from around the world, also given low income individuals a chance to sell their arts to the world. I am very excited about this project!

Though Kobialka Foundation is not ready, LiSem International website is ready if you wish to learn more about Dr. Kobialka, at www.danielkobialka.com.....

Many Blessings to You and Yours
Kachina
