The context of Led Zepplin

I grew up listening to Led Zepplin on the local radio station. The radio format was "Classic Rock" so I got to know a lot of 70s stuff. I was able to get my hands on the new Zepplin re-issue and I put it in my car a few weeks ago.

I have been blown away because I have never heard a high-fidelity recording of their music. It's very very familiar, but at the same time I feel like I am hearing it for the first time. I can hear all of this crazy stuff in the track that I had never noticed before. It's like I have been watching the movie in black and white and now it's color.

I think there are a lot of records that are very important to listen to in a certain way. Some music is
"headphones music," some music is "car music," some music is "sunday evening music" and so on...

A San Francisco Moment

On the way into work today, I walked by this homeless guy who was screaming loudly about Hickory Farms.

He was like "YOU CAN BUY CHEESE THERE AND YOU CAN ALSO BUY SAUSAGES THERE, IT'S CALLED HICKORY FARMS. HICKORY DICKORY DOCK etc etc etc"

This ranks up there with the homeless guy wearing a 3-pointed hat who asked me if he could read me a poem about the revolutionary war.

IMEEM & MySpace

Hi guys,

So it looks like MySpace decided to start blocking all of our embeds on their site. It's _not_ a problem from our side. They have been known to do this from time to time, they blocked YouTube last year.

If you think this sucks you can contact them and tell them what you think. The more they hear from you the sooner this issue will get solved.

Thanks :)

-Dalton

Marmaduke Explained

If you are anything like most of the people I know, you are constantly confused by the multiple layers of complexity present in every Marmaduke comic strip.

I am happy to say that there is finally an "online resource" for getting the "low down" on what the "joke" in Marmaduke "is."

Enjoy Marmaduke Explained

Profile skinning in imeem

We have a lot of cool meems and profiles that have a custom look and feel. For instance, We Are Scientists However, it hasn't been something that just anyone could do.

Obviously, we have had feature requests to allow anyone to customize the look and feel of their profile. It is now possible to set the colors of your profile on the web version of imeem.

To try it out, go to "Customize Profile" when logged into the website. That link is accesible from the bottom left hand area under "Your account" on every page.

Oh, and it's worth mentioning that the changes you make to your web profile are not reflected in your windows or mac client profile. Yet.

Teodor: I'm not sure what you mean. I don't know if what you're saying means anything.

Ray: I have airwolf. This is not code language. I am flying Airwolf because I own Airwolf.

Ray: Nothing else I could say would make more sense given what I own and what I am doing at this moment.

For some reason this specific bit of dialog makes me laugh.
Back from SXSW

I got back from SXSW a few days ago. I had a great time and was able to get press credentials to take video at the shows I went to. I've edited most of them and and put them up on the site.

Some highlights are Arctic Monkeys: http://tinyurl.com/mbu6v

Belle and Sebastian: http://tinyurl.com/rbydg

Cut Chemist: http://tinyurl.com/rggva

The main index page for videos we took is here: http://sxsw.imeem.com/portals/sxsw/podcasts.aspx

Dalton's interviewing tips

I've been interviewing a lot of people for jobs at imeem recently, and it's probably worth putting a couple of tips on my blog.

DO:

- Appear to have at least read the website of the company you are interviewing at. I can't stress this enough. Congratulations, poindexter, you just blew the interview in 30 seconds flat.

- Appear to have opinions about things. Acting bland and forgettable makes you... bland and forgettable.

DON'T:

- Send out resumes to a large list of email addresses in the CC line with a generic message.

- Put down skills that you only have a vague grasp of on your resume. You'll get called on it. I know a lot of other people that do interviews at other companies, and they are hip to this as well. Putting down "C/C++ expertise" if you have only taken an easy undergrad class in it is just asking to be ripped a new one.

P.S.

imeem is hiring. If you are reading this you have already passed my "actually seen our website" criteria, so head on over to http://imeem.com/jobs.aspx for more info.
