Dead Pets Society Presents… TOP OF THE POPS!

20th June 2009 at The Elevator Gallery, White Post Lane, Hackney Wick E9
Door open 8:00pm

Live performances from: Sculpture, The La De Dahs, Clinker, Karmadillo

Records spun by your psychedelic pop pickers: Horton Jupiter (they came from the stars I saw them), Shintaro Taketani (Club Pacific, Radio Miso), AJ Holmes (of the Hackney Empire), Mrs Richesse (Cover me Baddly), and Dolly (Ascot Suicide Society, Kill the Pets, DMT)

Lead with loving irreverence by this week’s top PRESENTERS: Jimmy Saville, Dave Lee Tranny, and Doobie Dom’s Disco Bus… If they bare a striking resemblance to Richard Tyrone Jones (comedian/poet host of Utter etc.), Mrs Richesse and Dominic Berry (Manchester’s performance poet host of Poets’n’Mash and Freed Up) this must simply be the pop working!…

Event link on Facebook
http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=78716819287

Another Thrilling Installment!!!

So here’s another thrilling installment in the world of Clinker! Oh I can’t stop myself! "Another thrilling installment"….when I wrote that I remembered what else I use that phrase for. As in “part 2….another thrilling installment”. It’s what we say when going for our second visit for big jobbies in the toilet (copyright Marcus Moir 1996). Anyway….now that you all feel a bit sick…

Yesterday we met up with Ambrose Yalley, an experimental video director who’s gonna be making some videos for us. Ambose first got his “break”... (snip! CENSORED). Hold on, hold on! Does every film maker... (snip CENSORED). Florian, who did the filmed interview with us a few weeks back, had just got back from Japan where amongst other things was employed to... (snip CENSORED). Anyway, I digress.

Meeting him was great. We’re very likeminded spirits. Most bands get freaked by his crazy ideas, we just encourage it. He has the same approach to doing things as us. We were there to see his story board for the first track hes gonna tackle, “Painted Red”, and hear of other ideas he has for other tunes. It is truly crazy but great stuff and not the accepted norm. Right up our alley (oo-er missus). We’re gonna start filming it in a couple of weeks. I can’t wait!!!

I’ve also completed a podcast for Paul Giovanni (episode 15). Paul writes the best blogs on myspace and every month on the 23rd at 23.23 he uploads a 69min 23sec podcast of tunes and stuff called Casa Hasa Giovanna. They’re always a good listen and worth downloading, so I’m glad to be let into his world to make one of my own. This months (23rd Feb) has been compiled by me. I’m not gonna tell you whats on it, you’ll have to head over and download it on the day (or after). Before then you can check out his other podcasts, probably easiest to get from here…

http://www.paulgiovanni.com/

But also check out his blogs here (I know some of you do already)…actually subscribe then you’ll get regular stuff to read and the podcast links...

http://www.myspace.com/paulgiovanni3rd

It’s been confirmed we are playing the Islington o2 Academy on March 24th (which means we will be skipping the Champions of the Empire night on the 28th boohoo). Tickets for o2 are £6, so get in touch with us for tickets and we’ll get them to you. We really would love everyone to come and cheer us on. It’s an industry showcase put on by Jar Music Group and hopefully we can impress the right people, but your support is important to help make that happen. There’s a lot more at stake, that I’ll go into more in a later blog.

Before that, next week on Saturday 21st February at the Bullet Bar, Kentish Town, London, we are playing the Champions of the Empire night again with our dear friends Colossus.

We are joint organisers (regular readers will know) with Colossus and The Retrotones. This will be the first night we’ve fully arranged ourselves and the idea is to work things a lot differently than other money grabbing promoters. There are a few good promoters out there in London, but most of them just throw bands together without any care or thought, then leave it to the bands to do their job for them. So you end up seeing a Kate Nash wannabe on the same bill as a Green Day wannabe and there’s no rapport between the bands and then naturally there's no atmosphere.

Our nights actively encourage the complete opposite of that and you can be sure you will feel like you’ve been on a proper night out afterwards. Any bands with something special to offer who want to be a part of that should get in touch via our Champions of the Empire myspace. Of course add too if you want to support the club.

http://www.myspace.com/championsoftheempire

Anyway, back onto the 21st February gig. On a personal level, I think it’s a brilliant line up. I’m especially really looking forward to seeing Eugene Machine (can’t believe I haven’t seen them yet) and Vivian & the Radio Rude (who I’m falling more and more in love with the more I hear). Get there early that’s all I say (the fun starts at 7pm-ish)!!! The full line up….in no particular order…well alphabetical… (line up order to be revealled on the night) is…

Clinker

Collosus
Eugene Machine
Headspace
The Retrotones
Vivian & the Radio Dude

The Champions myspace has a track from each of the bands, so check ‘em out and tell me you don’t want some of that!

Future plans include getting The Girobabies down from Scotland to play.

On a related note, we’ve done a Clinker remix for The Spartans tune “Hermit”, which they’ve now got up on their player. I have to stress (cos most people think I do most of what we do and I don’t) Tomoko did most of the work. I came in late added bass and some backing vocals. Spartans played the last Champions night and showed us they have some quality tunes. Tomoko specifically remembered this one. First time Tomoko played what she'd done to me I thought she was playing Sigur Ros. Needless to say then, it’s a great tune and he’s got a brilliant voice. Head over to their page for a listen…show them some love.

http://www.myspace.com/thespartans4

Oh man…this has turned into a bit of an epic! Thanks for getting to the end. I’ll stop now. It’s Friday!!! Party time!!! And I don’t wanna send you to sleep. Hopefully see you all at The Bullet Bar next week (21st). The fun starts at 7, though you should be able to get in before then and possibly witness some “1….1…1…2” action.

Aaaargh I nearly forgot. We've started giving away a CD single at our gigs of Hallucination Generation (plus 3 tracks). Today I realised it wasn't fair on all our mailing subscribers who can't get to our gigs, so as from today the mailing list will get a link so they can download it for FREE. So please if you want it, get on the list (which you can do from our myspace).

1. Hallucination Generation

2. Searching for Hallucegens
3. Hallucination Generation (Opera Dog remix)
4. Music Gives You Power (DTT remix)

Have fun!!!

Pete

Releasing our album “Clinker” for FREE for download

We are releasing our album “Clinker” for FREE for download to mailing list subscribers. Release date is 20th December 2008.
To get hold of it, please visit our website below and sign up to our mailing list (or just let us know your email address and we’ll make sure you get one).
http://www.clinker.org.uk or http://www.reverbnation.com/clinker123

The album was finished in January 2008 and was very representive of our live set at the time, plus an extra dollop of Clinker oddness on the side. We were (and still are) very happy with it. By March, we’d lost our bass player (Joe). We spent the rest of this year trying to suitabley replace him, so we could finally be able to make the album widely available and play the songs live regularly.
During this time, we carried on recording and it soon become clear the next album was going to sound quite different. Now we have another new one almost finished which is the next step on for us. So we’ve decided to give this one (“Clinker”) away.

Take it it’s yours (on December 20th)!!!
