Yes ma'm I am a DOUBLE listener. Sorry hands down. She's the second most played person on my last.fm page. (that's hard to do J*Davey is still #1) In Japanese music it's really hard to find a voice that is distinct from all the others...well NOW we can actually say that in our culture (US) today as well. Because lets face it. It's not about the music anymore it's a about marketing, sex appeal, and money. No one gives a shit. Which is why I don't watch music videos on TV or listen to the radio. But I digress from my point... the woman's voice is like a breath of fresh air when I heard "Who's That Girl" for the first time. Because I thought the only Japanese singer I would get close to w/ a soulful voice was Crystal Kay. But there are others...like DOUBLE.

DOUBLE (ダブル) originally started with two members, sisters SACHIKO and TAKAKO. They both got into music by the influence of their older sister, who, after spending time studying in the United States, brought back some R & B CDs by popular artists at that time. TAKAKO's personal interest in R & B came not from the music, but from watching the music videos by TLC, En Vogue, and Mary J. Blige. After performing some covers in local night clubs, the duo got that chance to audition for For Life Records. In 1998, SACHIKO and TAKAKO formed the duo, "DOUBLE". After having numerous hits, tragedy struck on May 21, 1999 when SACHIKO suddenly passed away. Despite the loss of SACHIKO, TAKAKO refused to let "DOUBLE" fade away, and continued her music career.

Even though the only reason DOUBLE is kind of being talked about right now is because she did a song w/ my ex future wife Namie Amuro (on right, in pic above) called BLACK DIAMOND. Which is only mediocre on DOUBLE's scale because it not even close to her style. It's Namie's. But what has made me like her even more is the fact that she's not in it for commercial success. She doesn't do much publicity. It just happens she has a fan base. Which is the reason why if you try to search for pics, videos, or tours it's really hard to find. She's a very private, shy perfectionist. (Sounds like me lol) and that makes me like her even more. Cause even w/ limited publicity she's still managed to be the queen of Japanese R&B.
