Mahou Sensei Negima Shiroki Tsubasa Ala Alba - ova!!!!

A third set of OVAs called Mahō Sensei Negima!: Shiroki Tsubasa Ala Alba (White Wings) has been announced by Ken Akamatsu himself on his website days after the end of the live-action adaptation’s airing.[1] Production will once again be handled by Shaft and the entire anime cast from Negima!? will reprise their roles in this new venture. This set of OVAs will cover chapters 176 to 183 (except 181) and will be shown in three parts:

The first OVA will cover chapters 176 and 177 and will be released on August 17, 2008, together with the release of Volume 23 of the manga.
The second one will cover chapters 178 to 180 and will have a release date of November 17, 2008, along with the release of Volume 24.
The third one will show chapters 182 and 183 and will be out on February 17, 2009 together with Volume 25.
Just like the Negima adaptations by Shaft (i.e. the Spring and Summer OVAs and Negima!?), Akiyuki Shinbo will take the directing helm in this new set of OVAs, together with the very same leading animation crew but will closely follow the original character design and storyline.[1]

Also, manga-only characters Albireo Imma and Kotaro Inugami will have their animated debut in these OVAs.

As I feared, the chapters covered are character development/fanservice arcs. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. However, I was looking forward to seeing some proper action scenes animated but looks like that is unlikely.

Instead what we get is the fanservice section of the formation of Ala Alba arc which includes beach trip, onsen, and the customary “who gets to sleep with Negi-sensei” battle. Chapters 176 to 183 lies smack after Asuna’s Kanka training arc and before the group’s entry to Mondus Magicus (or the Magic World). The closest thing to action we’ll probably get is the badge snatching festival shown by Nodaka in the PV.

As a Negima Fan, there have a new manga series called NEGIMA NEO!!! OMG!!!!
Preview of "Negima!? neo" in Comic BomBom Special Issue
A special issue of Comic BomBom titled Abrakadabra was released on 9/29. The magazine contains a preview "chapter 0" of the upcoming "Negima!? neo" manga, set to start in the November issue of Comic BomBom.

And the first volume of Negima!? neo manga already release (2/2007)!!

Yes!! I read chapter 00 a few days ago and I liked it so far--the whole chapter was backstory on Negi and Anya at their magic school and shows them taking their final exam together (which is more like a quest than a "use a number two pencil and fill in the bubbles completely" final). I had heard Negima Neo was going to follow Shaft's anime storyline, but chapter 00 was completely different from the brief scene with Negi, Anya, and his sister in Shaft's episode 1. That's fine with me, since I'm already watching the anime and wouldn't want the manga to just be a reproduction of what I've already watched. The artwork isn't bad, it looks very similar to Akamatsu's, and it's the most screentime I've seen Anya get in any incarnation of Negima which is also good in my book. There didn't seem to be as much fanservice as the original Negima (except for Anya getting her clothes blown off near the end of the chapter), but since that varies from chapter to chapter in the original it's hard to say for sure yet.

Looking forward to seeing more, I'm curious if this will go into the Evangeline arc next like Shaft did, or if this will go in a different direction completely.

The second to last issue (the November issue, on sale October 15) of Kodansha's cancelled Comic BonBon magazine has announced that its Negima!? neo manga will continue in issue 2 (on sale January 19) of the Magazine Special manga magazine. Negima!? neo is Takuya Fujima's spinoff manga — for younger children — that is based on Ken Akamatsu's original Negima! Magister Negi Magi original magic school manga. Kodansha will also continue publishing the compiled volumes.
