Hawthorne Heights

We live in a musical climate where change is unavoidable. These are tough times, and only those with talent, with the innovation to keep ahead of the pack, and the strength to work through the hard times will survive. It is a mantra HAWTHORNE HEIGHTS take to heart – as one of the biggest success stories in rock music in the last decade, they have had their share of career highlights, and crushing lows. But, sticking to the old adage “when the going gets tough, the tough get going,” lead vocalist JT Woodruff, guitarist Micah Carli, bassist Matt Ridenour and drummer Eron Bucciarelli know that taking the easy way out just isn’t the way for them.

Having formed in the unlikely musical breeding ground of Dayton, Ohio in 2001, HAWTHORNE HEIGHTS learned early on that adaptation and diligence were the keys in the development of a successful career. Playing relentlessly from the start on selfbooked tours across the country and sharing the stage with bands such as The Descendants and Coheed and Cambria gave them some initial national exposure. But it wasn’t until they signed to Victory Records in late 2003 that HAWTHORNE HEIGHTS became the face of a whole new generation of music fans.

As one of the first bands to utilize social networking to gain a fan base, HAWTHORNE HEIGHTS developed a huge MySpace following that became a catalyst that would launch them from underground heroes to international superstars. As the voice of a genre, the band became regulars on MTV, their signature hit “Ohio Is For Lovers” the anthem for the new wave of “emo”. Their debut album The Silence In Black And White soon went Gold, and with their second album If Only You Were Lonely, the band scored Victory Records’ biggest ever debut, landing at #3 on the Billboard 200 in 2006. The band appeared on Conan O’Brien and Jimmy Kimmel, and became magazine cover stars, sending sales of The Silence… to Platinum status. It was the dream many bands hope for, but few seldom achieve, and HAWTHORNE HEIGHTS were living it.

Sadly, as with every success story, the good times came at a cost. In October 2007, while in the midst of legal disputes, tragedy struck within the HAWTHORNE HEIGHTS family. Casey Calvert, the much loved guitarist and resident “screamer” of the band lost his life while on tour due to an accidental overdose of medications prescribed by his doctor and dentist, which proved to be lethal combination. The effects on the band were evident, both personally and musically, and the decision to carry on was the toughest they would ever have to make.

On August 5 2008, HAWTHORNE HEIGHTS return with Fragile Future, a brand new album. Although the sound is still distinctly Hawthorne Heights, the music, as with the band, has understandably evolved.

“After spending the last 2 years in a deep dark place, we decided to try to find the bright lights again with Fragile Future,” noted singer J.T. Woodruff. “We, as a band, noticed that everyone has tremendous ups and downs, so we wanted this record to communicate that. We chose the title Fragile Future, because it sums up the current state of our band, as well as what is going on in the outside world. We must all make good choices to create a better situation in our lives.” “With the loss of Casey, and no plans to replace him, we’ve had to make some obvious changes to our sound on this record,” added drummer Eron Bucciarelli. “Originally there were less screams planned for this record than the second one, but sadly we never got the chance to do even that. This forced us to take a creative approach to certain songs. We’ve beefed up the guitars in parts, added gang vocals, choirs and all sorts of effects to still capture some of the energy that Casey brought.”

With their trademark strong melodies and hooks still intact, Hawthorne Heights have broadened their sound to emerge with a collection of 12 deliciously genre-free songs that will set the airwaves alight across the world. HAWTHORNE HEIGHTS may have already set on the path to global domination, but with the release of Fragile Future, the road in front of them will lead them to the biggest, most impressive heights of all.

Stay Informed

Ok so first things first....our e-mail list: sign up for it NOW using this link: CLICK HERE
(Enter postal code with NO Spaces)

"Why should we sign up for your email list when you're updating your new website daily, Eron?" Well, to answer your great question, if you sign-up, not only will you be the first to know about everything HH related from Tour announcements to album information, but you might, just maybe, also get a little something extra periodically (HINT HINT HINT)!!! So if you haven't already, do it now....then tell all of your friends to sign up (who are already HH fans, because you've done your fanly duties and told them all about us)!!!

Now on to some miscellaneous rambling...Our trip back to NYC was postponed for a week. I'm bummed :( I love everything about NYC and as much as I love being home, I want to get back to the city and finish these songs off so we can actually record them and share them with you! They're coming along amazingly and the anticipation of our release is killing me!

We're staying in an apartment while we work and the location couldn't possibly be any better for me. On our block there are literally 20 indian food places, including a couple that are open 24hrs, which is great because I absolutely LOVE indian food and I don't normally get to eat it back home in Ohio! During our first week out there, we ate at 5 different indian restaurants (minimum). Some were better than others, but I look forward to trying some of the other ones on the block! As a bonus, there's a Pinkberry near by and a great bagel place! I'm in heaven!

Eron

New Label + New Album!

We've signed to Wind Up Records...new record coming soooooon! We're stoked...you should be too! So perhaps (and hopefully) some of you have been clued in and following some of the small hints I've been dropping on our myspace since December about this weeks announcement. I so wanted to do something bigger and cooler to announce this along the lines of an Alternate Reality Game (aka: ARG...aka: nerd speak for an online scavenger hunt) similar to the ones that went along with the movies A.I. and Cloverfield. I enjoyed those ARGs and I wanted to share that thrill of the hunt with all of you. Alas, that wasn't in the cards, for this announcement....

So now that the bag is out of the cat, we've been writing for a new record since...well...last May. Right before Never Sleep Again, we spent some time at a cabin in the woods down in Eastern Ohio. Just us, nature and our instruments. Since the end of Never Sleep Again we've really stepped up the writing and rehearsal intensity. We have a ton of amazing new songs for you, the best we've ever written.

We've been in NYC for the last couple days working with the label, preparing things and in the studio tightening up songs! Aside from the lengthy road to get to this point, getting to NYC was quiet the journey. JT went up a week ahead of Matt, Micah and I to work on vocals/lyrics to some of the songs we had been writing, so he didn't have to contend with the weather. It ended up snowing like 6 inches the night before we had to fly out, which seems to also be a fitting metaphor for our career. So we get to the airport, the snow had stopped at this point and everything was still on time. We check our bags and go through security. First delay...only 10 minutes (ok fine, we can live with that). Second delay...1 hour (still not bad given all the snow). So with a half-hour until we board I took some Dramamine (I get bad motion sickness on planes). Five minutes later...CANCELLED...SHIT! Not only do we have to fly out early the following morning, but now I've just taken something that makes me feel like a zombie for absolutely no reason. I was bummed, but it was comical.

We're in the studio today tightening some songs up, making them even more killer than they already are! That's all the info you get for now. Stay tuned for more updates!
--Eron

From The Road - Ninth Entry

Hey Peepers,

We are sitting at one of our favorite venues in US...The Intersection in Grand Rapids, Michigan. We have played here a half a dozen times, and it's always great. Projekt Revolution is winding down, and it makes us sad because this tour has been so fun. It's been great to hang out with all the summer festival fans, but we are gearing up for hitting the clubs in the fall. We are routing the tour right now, and can't wait to announce the bands. I hope you all are doing well...stay safe, stay positive.

Love,
JT and HH

Order the iTunes bundle here now!!!

From The Road - Eighth Entry

Mambo Number 5!

Ok, so that was dumb haha. We are sitting in Sherman Oaks California right now, after a long day of press. I am so excited that our record is finally out. Did you pick it up yet? I bought a copy at Hastings in New Mexico...sweet. Tomorrow we will be going to Mountain View California for a ProjRev show.

Don't forget to check us out at Tilly's for an acoustic session...

A lot of people don't know that the Walmart version of Fragile Future contains 2 B-sides! Get that version if you haven't. We are getting our tour plans together for the fall...so get excited, and start saving your pennies.

Keep on stayin' positive.

Love
JT

Order the iTunes bundle here now!!!
